Hi All! I'm trying to find a knitted wool soaker pattern that will give me something that looks like this: <a href="http://www.kustomcoolcats.com/wst_page4.html" target="_blank">http://www.kustomcoolcats.com/wst_page4.html</a><br><br>
I used the term "ribbed crotch" to search here and on Yahoo and came up blank. Any ideas?

Spiffy! Looks like she didn't decrease or anything, just went from knitting in the round for the body to splitting it into two flat halves and knitting ribbed, joining at the bottom.<br><br>
Figure, something like: Figure out your gauge and how many stitches you need for the diameter around baby's hips and diaper. Cast on that number of stitches on needles two sizes smaller, do a 2/2 rib for 1-2 inches, with eyelets for drawstring if you'd like. Switch to your larger needles, knit around for the body to your desired length. Split your stitches onto two of the smaller sized needles, and knit 2/2 rib off one of them for half the length of the crotch; do the same for the other needle. Graft or bind off those two needles together. Grafting will give you a better line there in the middle.

Thanks, Tara, I think I got that (I'm a knitting virgin <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"> ).<br><br>
I'm wondering, would this work: Cast on 1/2 the stitches needed to go around DD's waist, work a rib stitch for 1-2 inches, then knit stockinette for X inches, then rib stitch for X inches to go to the middle of the crotch and up the back side, then stockinette again, then rib knit again. Then just seam the sides. Did that make ANY sense (again, knitting virgin)?

MomInFlux, yes, that sounds like it would work just fine! Good luck <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">

I would definitely go down a few needle sizes for the ribbing, otherwise it will be way to stretchy and bulky in between the legs <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">
