I've come across two other knitting mommies in this DDC without even trying. Any others? Who's on Ravelry? I'm howe2knit on ravelry- feel free to friend me. What are you all knitting? I'm selfishly knitting socks for myself. I need birthing socks. I can't think about knitting baby things yet.

Oooo, birthing socks...good idea!

I'm LaurenAnanas on Ravelry too, but I'm not "out" as pregnant there yet. Too many real life friends who don't know yet.

I have already started on some baby socks and they are killing me with the cuteness. I knit some cotton bibs last month, "for the gift stash," but I think they may get rolled over to my baby's stash.

I'm planning to do at least one simple cardigan, maybe some wooly pants, and some accessories, but I'm leaving the blankets for my crafty friends. My mom knits too, and I think she's already planning some Dale stranded-color masterpiece. She is such a sweetheart.

My main knitting plans for the summer are to do a bunch of holiday gifts, so that I have fewer things to worry about in December!

Same here. I work for an LYS and noone there knows yet, so I'm being cautious that coworkers/students/customers on Ravelry don't know until I've officially told the gang.

I went ahead and joined the pregnant Ravelry groups yesterday. Trying to stay positive.
I've made a baby sweater and a baby shrug but I was planning on giving them as gifts IF dh's cousin has at least one girl (twins). If they have boys, I'll keep them. Of course if we have a boy, I'll just give them to the next friend who comes up pregnant. Being military, we ALWAYS know someone pregnant.

I'm working on a pair of longies right now and have ordered some luxurious alpaca blend yarn for a bunting. I'm a yarn addict.

I'm also not "out" about being pregnant yet, so I'm also not knitting anything for this baby yet either(call me superstitious--I didn't knit anything for DS until I was three or four months along either).

If anyone wants to find me on Ravelry though, I'm the same username there as I am here! The beauty of getting into something early, nobody's swiped your name yet!

I'm fairly new to knitting. I've been doing it off and on for a couple years, but have only done scarves and a baby blanket (no patterns or changing of needles or type of knitting needed, )

I'd love to knit longies for babe, but have no idea where to start. How complicated is it compared to doing scarves? What yarn is best? What size needle?

Thanks

Um, how about crochet? Or is that a bad word around here?

Totally not a bad word! I'll fight anyone who says it is! That's what I teach at the shop I work for. I knit more at home, but professionally, I crochet more.

You could totally do it with a good pattern. I'd try a hat first. I'm a firm believer that hats are nearly perfect as a second project. Once you figure that out, you're set. Do you have a yarn shop in your area? They nearly all have classes and will help if you get stuck on a project with stuff bought there.

I wish I knew how to knit!
I don't have any grandma or anyone to teach me, though... and I don't think I could learn from a book.
Hmm... maybe there are instructional DVDs

There are some instructional DVD's out there. Leisure Arts has a pretty good one. There are also alot of online videos.

Are there any yarn shops in your area? Most of them have classes.

I'm horribly slow at knitting. But in theory I'm going to finish DH's hat in time for next winter then do DD's cardigan for next winter, and then hopefully start on longies for the baby.

What yarn do you use? I was thinking peace fleece and then learning to dye it, I just dyed roving for felting (here) and that was FUN, so I want to dye my own yarn too.

Booflies, I taught myself to knit from picture directions, so you might do fine. Give it a try!

I'm thinking about starting this baby hat pattern in some neutral color. Maybe ivory with a white ribbon. Will go out tomorrow to buy supplies to make the "announcement to the grandparents Easter basket" and am going to pick up some yarn for a hat as well. That's assuming tomorrow's pee-stick is still +, of course.

Another knitter here! I just joined Ravelry and I'm littlenest on there. There is so much to explore on Ravelry...I didn't even know you could have "friends"!

I haven't started knitting anything yet for this babe, though I'm itching to get started on some longies. I'm going to wait awhile yet though, because just in case something happens I don't want to have a tiny pair of longies as a reminder (I've miscarried in the past, so I'm a little paranoid )
