I really don't think you need to felt a wool knitted cover to make it work. I know that it must be properly lanolized or else it will leak. Maybe some other Mama can answer with more certainty but I've never heard that feliting is necessary.

NO! Dont felt. Felted wool is tight and therefore more waterproof of course. If you felt it, It will not fit! It will loose its stretch too and be WAY smaller than it started out.

Lanolizing is the most important part of making it work for a cover, and making sure the diaper you put under it is absorbant enough too. Also the wool itself is VERY absorbant and can hold alot before you notice it being wet on the outside. Then if you have lanolized it well, you can just hang it to dry and put it back on!
I've crocheted a wool wrap and some shorties. I've only used them during the day and they work well. I lanolized them with lansinoh and some baby bath. Easy-peasy.
I felted a knitted wool cover once, but ONLY because it came out gigantic and I needed to shrink it!
well i guess that i will not felt then i was hoping that i didnt have to because of shrinking and never being able to get the right size! thanks!!!
