I've read much in the diaper reviews about Kushies Ultra or Kushies AIO, but what about Kushies Fitted Diaper, the Kushies Classic. On epinions and amazon.com and diapersafari.com, I heard good things. Just wondering if any of you moms have had experience with these. I'm due August 9th with a girl and am wanting to do CD and am trying to find the right buys. I don't mind spending more if in the long run they work better and hopefully last for my next one.

I used them with one of my dd's years ago. The advantage is they are easy to get and relatively inexpensive. I found that they worked better than the AIO's which tend to leak out the front and didn't have the problem of the PUL getting holes which the AIO's are notorious for. I did have a problem with them getting stinky, probably b/c the inner is a number of layers of flannel and the velcro doesn't like to stay on it's fold back closure for washing. This means when you open the washer (and again with the dryer) you get a 'diaper snake" of all your diapers attatched to one another. Not a big deal, but it was rather annoying.

I agree that the velcro is a PITA in the washer and dryer, but they do work ok. No complaints here, EXCEPT, they do have a layer of PUL inside, so if you're looking for a more natural diaper, and for that price, you should be able to find fitteds that are made with better quality fabric, b/c also, their absorbent material is pretty shitty, like 2 thin layers of flannel - what is that??!??.
DO NOT, get the kushies that still have the old green kooshies label on them. I've had both the newer and the older versions (both brand new) and the older style look older, even though all have been used an equal lengh of time. PM me if you wanna see pix of the labels so you know whatI'm talking about.
Having said that, I honestly do like them, but don't LOVE them. I like the AIO's much better.

Thanks....

Sorry.. I'm all new to this, but what does DD or PUL mean?

And, you two (and others) who have used Kushies Classics, did you use them at night too with a doubler and cover? If so, what kind of doubler and cover did you use? Were your children heavy-wetters?

dd= dear daughter
PUL - is polyurathane laminate

I did use them at night with a thick cotton doubler. I honestly don't remember what cover I used at night. I would think a wool soaker of a fleece cover like a Stacinator would be a good choice for night.

I know I will be doing a lot of laundering, so my question is.....Did you find that these diapers held up with use? I would like to buy 24, but do I need more? Do you recommend buying used or really should I invest in new ones?

I used older ones with my DS, and I found that they worked as well as the newer ones. They hold up really well, but you do have to clean the velcro once in a while, as they tend to diaper snake up in the wash

Yeah, that is probably a good idea, just make sure that the doubler is thick. Some "stay dry fleece" doublers are really just fleece inserts with a minimal amount of 'doubler' fabric. You want something absorbant with fleece added on top.

Cool....

What does IRL mean? Sorry, still new at this.

I would like to get some used ones that I know will last a good year... just in case my baby's small and of course for the next one.

Let me know if you are interested in selling yours. Sorry... right now, I really don't have anything to trade.

If you want to spend more money, I *really* think you'd be more happy with a higher quality product.... read some threads here.... there are some AWESOME products out there....

And FWIW, I don't like velcro, because my dd can undo it waaaay too easily

Just my 2 cents.

I think (?) the inner material is vinyl instead of PUL. I had one of these when dd was little but rarely used it because I couldn't bring myself to put a PUL cover over a diaper with a PUL inner layer. DD's bum would feel sort of stiff and crackly when I picked her up, it was too much like the sposie bum feel. I dunno, kinda silly, but I cd because I like the feel of the fabrics.

I thought the diaper over all was OK but I definately wasn't in love with it. I would be inclined to pursued you to keep looking at other cd options unless there is a IRL store that you would like to do a registry with and they carry these. If you add the cost of doublers etc, the whole pkg might come out to be just as expensive as some of the higher quality fitteds.

To answer your question about wear...cotton flannel tends to not wear as well as thicker fabrics like cotton fleece or terry. I'm not sure what price you are getting these for (I'm assuming that you are looking for an economical diapering solution) but you might also consider motherease diapers which are also relatively inexpensive and are, IME, more durable.

Sarah-

I have never used Kushies before but from some of the things I have read about them in the past, you could do better from an absorbancy and quality standpoint. Why don't you tell us a little about what you are looking for - a fitted or all-in-one and price range, and maybe we can give suggestions for a good product that fits the bill? There are SOO many optioins out there for wonderful quality products!!

Well, I know that all diapers disposable and cloth leak sometimes, etc. However, I would like a diaper that that occurs rarely. I would like diaper that prevents BF blowouts. I would like one that would last with my baby for a long time (like ones that say they will fit sizes 10-22). My husband was very weary of CD, but after doing some research with me on the Internet, he is all for it (esp. b/c we dont have the budget for disposables)--and he too thinks CD are so much more cuter.
HOwever, he still isn't sold on the whole using cloth outside of the house and toting poop around--however, I have been trying to tell him about liners which would decrese the yuck factor of cd on the road.

And on top of all that--I want the best I can get and the cheapest I can get. my friend uses prefolds, but I would prefer fitted because I have to work parttime and will have my mom look after sophia (our name we chose). ALso, I like the idea of fitteds that allow for no cover use, so that even if it meant more changing more often, the less likely for diaper rash due to heat--because it is 95% hot down here in Augusta. I looked into some cute WAHM rouser trousers, but they are so expensive and it didn't look like she made in bulk.

Does that help? Thank you so much for the help!!!

Thanks for the advice and suggestion. I did look into Motherease--which were really cute even though they had no prints. I just wasn't really happy with the reviews. I've noticed when reading up on many different types of diapers that people many times love a certain type or hate it. I would like to fine a diaper that many people like--even the ones with heavy wetters, etc. I just don't know what will be best for my baby right now--heck, i don't even know if she has skinny or chubby thighs. *sigh* this stuff is overwhelming--
