Anyone go to the Huntington yesterday??? I stayed home to work on a project, in preparation for a meeting today, then today arrived and the meeting got called off
... at least I'm ready for the rescheduled meeting, but darnit, I would have loved to go to the Huntington! Haven't been for months!

We're getting ready for a two-week visit to Kentucky, my home, haven't been back for nearly 4 years. Never dreamed it would be so long. I'll be glad when we're in the air! Getting everything done and getting backed makes me need a vacation!

Hi Ninette
I hope you have a great time in KY! When do you leave?

I still have yet to go to the Huntington. This week was lazy. Hopefully next week we can get to the park. One day you have to drive down to meet us for a day at Kids Concepts - its a big indoor playground and had all sorts of slides and tunnels and ball pits, plus an art room, a gym room, music, puppets, kitchen, dressup, and of course FOOD :p We usually spend the whole day there.

I cant believe there are so few AP mamas in the LA area!

Hey JessasMilkMama!!!
We leave the 14th. I'll be doing much better once we're in the air!!! Getting ready for vacation is crazy!

I haven't managed to get to the Huntington for months
...

I would LOVE to come down sometime and check out Kids Concepts. I hope to make it down for another SoCalAPFamilies Long Beach / South Bay gathering. The reason I didn't come for the first, and probably won't be able to for a while, is we need a reliable, trustworthy vehicle! I don't feel safe going more than an hour away from home with it right now, at least not when it's just me and the boys. Old car on its last legs, and we're kinda strapped so I hope it keeps limping along for a while... Does Kids Concepts allow kids older than 5? Some indoor play places don't, I've found.

I think there *have* to be kazillions of LA AP moms. But I don't have a clue why they seem hard to find. Someone suggested it's because of being so widespread, which I can understand if someone's looking for truly local parkdates/playgroups ... but if you're just wanting some support, it doesn't really matter how far flung we are, seems to me ... but that's just me
... I'm on an ongoing mission to find and bring together all the AP moms in Ventura County, and "all" the AP families in SoCal ... crazy???

I think its awesome!
Kids Concepts definitely lets kids in over 5. Weekends, Summer, and weekdays after 3 it starts to fill up with lots of older kids, thats why we like to go at around 11.

Carry over from last month.

I'm in Pasadena. Not sure exactly what rentals are going for these days, but $1600 sounds like the low end and may be difficult to find. Many new apts recently built, but those dumb "luxury" apts and way expensive. Be sure to check the surrounding areas of South Pasadena, Altadena (tends to be less expensive), and abit further, Siera Madre, Arcadia, Monrovia, Temple City, Rosemead, San Gabriel. Might find something in your price range in those other communities, with a 20 minute or so commute to Pasadena from the farthest one. I've lived in TC, and it's a nice community. Has good schools. Same for Arcadia. Pasadena schools seem to be touch and go - some are great, some aren't. I'm fond of some parts of Monrovia as well.

My DS attends Altadena Christian Childrens Center in Altadena (duh). It's not a faith-based school, but a community outreach part of the Baptist church there. DS has been there since he was 6mo old (he's almost 3 now), and we've been very happy with it. My sister is in the field (out of state) and so I'd done a ton of research before we chose ACCC. I'm rather involved at school, and that seems to be the norm for most parents there (always a good thing!). ACCC is currently in the process of recertifying with NAEYC. I recommend them highly.

Lemme know if I can provide any other info!

Sallie,
Thanks for the reply but the good news is that my Dh found us a house in Arcadia. I found that Arcadia had much better schools than Pasadena and surrounding areas.
Now all I have to do is get packed and move with all 3 kids. I would be taking a 26 hour flight with a 6 yr old, 3 yr old and an 8 month old infant BY MYSELF.
I had another question? Can you tell me which preschools are good for my 3 yr old? I am worried that the good places must be all filled up by now for fall intake. Thanks for your help once again.

Many of the preschools have summer programs, which start in a few weeks (regular school is still in session). Some of them offer programs for school-aged children as well, for the summer. What type of preschool are you looking for? Something specific like Montessori? Waldorf? Community? Co-op? I know there are a number out there, but I'm mostly familiar with the community preschools (of which ACCC, where my DS goes, is one).

Congrats on the house, and good luck with the flight!!

Hi Sunita ... I may have posted this previously, forgive me if so, but you can find a listing of southern California *co-op* style preschools at ccppns.org

The co-op that I attend in another area of socal sometimes has waiting lists for classes, but there is enough flux and enough things happen that the waiting lists are often emptied fairly quickly. People sometimes put themselves on the waiting list just to cover bases, then someplace else they've waitlisted for opens up and they remove themselves from other waiting lists, kwim? Plus other circumstances. So ... don't avoid waiting lists

Good luck!!!

You mean ccppns? Probably best to get on the phone with them. Or do you mean you emailed an individual preschool? I suspect ccppns isn't the most responsive; I think they have lots of volunteers. Could be wrong. Good luck! Keep asking around. Might ask your local LLLers too.

No I emailed the individual school. One just got back to me and said places are full and that the waiting list is very long

Well, once I get there , I guess I would worry abt that. I am just thinking that my girls would go stir crazy since I dont have anything lined up for them and we dont know anyone there YET.

Now to do some more packing.

Congradulations on the house, Sraikh! I am in San Gabriel- right next to Arcadia. There is a preschool in Arcadia that some friends of mine go to called Serendipity.

Sunita-

Hi, maybe this will help on your long trip... we used it when we traveled to Italy: Most airlines have bassenet seats. Usually in bulkhead rows. They are baby bassinets that fit into the wall in front of your seat. It is great for sleeping & just for a place for the baby to hang out in. I dont remember what the weight requirements are. Call your airline to see if they provide them for passengers. we used Continental & they did. mb

Hello everyone! I have not posted in this forum for a long time but I really want to jump back in and get to know all of you. First let me tell you all little about myself. I have a 3yo dd named Audrey and a 1 mo dd named Copper. We recently moved from Sylmar to Glendale. We co-sleep, cloth diaper and BF.

I would love to join you at Hunnington this next month and kidsconcept sounds like fun. What city is it in?

I look forward to meeting all of you and making some new friends.

Hi my name is Leslie and I live in Sierra Madre, right next door to Arcadia.
Dd is 20 mos. and we go to a toddler class at the Sierra Madre Community Nursery School. I highly recommend it!!!! I don't know about openings but you could call and ask. But definitely visit the school when you are trying to decide. It's beautiful. Dd will be attending next fall when she is old enough and will remain in the toddler group until then. Good Luck!!
