Can someone explain how and why Lactaid works? Is it safe? Tastes sweeter than milk...why is that?

I have noticed that DS spits up less if I drink this than regular milk...same nutrients? Anything chemical in it???

From what I understand lactase is added to break down the lactose. Lactose is a sugar so when it is broken down it makes two simple sugars, which results in the slightly sweeter taste. Ds drinks lactose free milk regularly. Land O Lakes also makes a lactose free milk called Dairy Ease.
