Just wondering. I've decided on everything else, but I'm wavering on whether to pick up a LA program with my 6 year old reader. If/when I do LA, it will be First Language Lessons for the Well Trained Mind, so nothing too workbooky. But I'm just wondering when I should incorporate it?? I'll be doing the Ordinary Parents Guide with my 4 y/o for his phonics (okay, well, I'm going to TRY it and see if we'll be doing it or not...he may not be as ready as I think). Seems like maybe it would be a little much [for me] to do OPG and FLL in addition to everything else. What do you think? Everyone else I know does workbooks for phonics and LA and I'm just not into that AT ALL (nor would my kids like it for more than a day or so!).

I think that you could start it now if your child was interested/ready. But you could easily wait a year too. Just depends on where your child is at.
Nice thing about FLL is that you can do it slower or faster depending on interest/abilities. So even though it's meant for 2 years (1st and 2nd gr) you could spread it out a little further or speed it up later, whatever your needs are.
It's also very short lessons-maybe 10 minutes which is nice. We only did 2 lessons a week when we started to see how it went.
We ended up doing 1 or 2 lessons a week in 1st gr and then didn't do much for a while around the holidays in 2nd grade. Now we're speeding up and do 2 lessons in a day about 2-3 days a week. We also skip some things as needed or if it's too repetitive.
So if you think you want to start then just plan on doing a few lessons a week, not every day.
Just see how it goes. You can always stop and start again later, that's the glory of home education
