At the EWG Report Skin Deep website it has this to say about lanolin:

Quote:
Skin sensitizer sensitizer - can instigate immune system response that can include itching, burning, scaling, hives, and blistering of skin

Immunotoxicity hazards: immune system toxin

Skin or sense organ toxicity hazards: skin or sense organ toxicant
Huh?
: What's up with this? We're always told to use pure lanolin for dry breasts/nipples and that it doesn't need to be washed off. Anyone have any insight on this? It mentions later in the page that these are "suspected risks"...

And here's the reference that the Skin Deep report references on lanolin:

Do you think these are just overblown suspected risks or what?

Hi Poet,

I used the Medela brand of 100% pure lanolin at the beginning of my nursing days when ds was first born. I have used Kellymom.com for so many breastfeeding resources. Here is a link to what that site has to say:

I would also check out the site for La Leche League and see what they say. Also once your dc is born, be sure to sit with a lactation consultant to get their opinion on lanolin.

I hope this helps!!!
