Does anyone wash all their wool in the washer? What about knits? Do you lanolize it in there too? I am tring it right now, but I didn't think about maybe the lanolin gumming up the washer...duh! Have you done it, and did it work ok?

I haven't tried yet because I am mainly paranoid about felting but I also don't want any leftover residue getting onto diapers or clothing. I know when I lanolize in a bucket there is a film leftover and I have to rinse the bucket out well with hot water to remove it.

Wanted to post an update. I washed all my wool in the washing machine today, including the knitted wool. I have 3 knitted pants made out of fisherman's wool that held up very well(no felting), some covers/wraps that did excellent too, and one pair of wool shorts made from HPY merino that felted a bit in the washer. I won't do the merino ones in there again. LOL I was able to stretch them out a bit, but not sure if they'll fit my guy anymore. We'll see. So I washed them on warm/warm, with a little quirt of baby shampoo, and while they were in there I was dreading lanolizing all of them(too many with 2 kids to fit in the sink), so I decided to try lanolizing them in the washer. I set the washer to soak(it agitates gently every few minutes)I put a good squirt of lanisoh, and a couple of drops of baby shampoo in a gallon jug, then filled it most of the way with hot water, shook the heck out of it, and poured it over the dipes as they were agitating. Let the cycle finish and spin then hung them all up. It worked beautifully! The washer seemed ok. I washed sheets on hot afterwards to make sure all the lanolin was out(and I don't mind if the sheets get a bit of it on them).
Anyway, HTH someone.
