What is lap booking? I guess I have the terminology right. I've read up on it a little bit. Is it similar to doing a unit study on one single topic?

I just found lapbooking about 2 weeks ago. We LOVE it! My daughter has a blast putting the books together then going over what is in it. You can really do whatever you wish to fit your childs abilities. If you check out my blog there are some great links to some lapbooking sites that give you not only ideas but also give you the printed material if you aren't comfortable making your own.

I am not really sure what "unit" study is since we just started homepreschool. But if I understand it correctly the answer is yes to your question. the lapbook just keeps everything together in one spot. Easy!

here's a great site to explain lapbooking: http://www.squidoo.com/lapbooking

there are many sites that offer free lapbooks, as well as sites where you can purchase them. my favorite site is: http://www.homeschoolshare.com/Lapbooks_at_HSS.php (just click on the level or topic of interest to see the lists). i also have purchased from www.handsofachild.com and http://www.liveandlearnpress.com/ (they have a couple of freebies and even more freebies when you join their yahoo group). there are several other sites that come to mind.... if you want me to list them, i'm happy too. lapbooking is for all ages and definitely can be used as a unit study or just to cover a specific topic... it's totally up to you how how you use them and how elaborate you make them. we also enjoy notebooking...which imho is simpler and just as impressive. either approach is wonderful & perfect if you need a portfolio for the state..or even just a brag book for the skeptics. have fun!

I ordered one from Hands of a Child. They have some really interesting topics and lots of 'em! How exciting. I can't wait to try our first one.
