yeah...i saw this episode. the part where they bust downstairs during the circ made me throw up in my mouth a bit, just from nerves...i'm overly sensitive about anything having to do with people in pain, esp. this subject (circ in general, male, female equally). it just pisses me off and makes me sick to my stomach!

When they are interrogating the African woman who has been arrested for circumcising females, she says something like, "What I am doing is no different than a _____ _____ [Ritual circumciser of males]."

I was dissapointed that they dropped the subject and didn't follow up nor mention it later in the show. It seemed like they should say something about the guys girl children staying intact since in the end he was portrayed as the good guy even though he sent his wife to be mutilated.<br><br>

i watched it too. the one line that stuck with me was when "olivia" said "the men are so messed up and brainwashed in these cultures that they see mutilated genitals as beautiful"<br><br>
and yet, thats the SAME thing that we have here in this country, except its men. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/gloomy.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Gloomy">: I hear people talk of the FGM stuff and are simply horrified, and yet it happens here everyday with baby boys, and that is "normal"

wow. It was an awesome episode. they could have acknowledged the comparison the African mutilator made though.

According to him, he did NOT send her, it was HER choice. She was only 15, but they did address that 15 in Nigeria (isn't that where she was from?) was a LOT different than 15 in the U.S. So, something can be said for her getting to make the decision on her own.

Yes, I think in her country she was actually a certified professional for female circumcision. But of course her position is not recognized in the U.S. I also loved when she said that, I hope it makes people stop and think about what we are doing to males here.

I too thought it was interesting that "they" allowed that comparison to be made. I was a bit disappointed that they did pretty much drop the circ stuff and moved on but all in all I think it was a good tv bit!
