I always mulch, or do you call it thatching?, the last couple mows of the season. But, otherwise I bag all the clippings. Lately, I've been hearing we should just leave them on ALL summer.

Any idea why? Wouldn't it choke your lawn after awhile?

Hmmmm...ideas welcome. :LOL

It's good for your lawn to leave the mulched clippings on it because the clippings decompose into the lawn and provide nitrogen. It is supposed to be really good for your lawn. But you have to have a mulch mower or a mulch setting on your mower - this makes the clippings very fine and small. We do a combination - we use the mulch setting on our mower, and we do leave some of the clippings on the lawn, but we put most of it in the compost pile because it's so good for the compost. I guess I care more about our veggies than our lawn

We have a manual push mower, we always leave the grass clippings on our lawn too. And in the fall, when the leaves from our two Maple trees fall, we mulch those also (leaving some on the lawn) and put the rest in our compost pile. It works great.

Grass is 80% water so as it decomposes on the lawn it breaks down very quickly. It won't choke your lawn. The roots not being deep enough are the most common thing that chokes a lawn, a result of frequent but not deep watering.
