Sorry, I know this topic is TMI, but I am wondering how one would know if you were leaking small amounts of amniotic fluid? I haven't had much, erm, 'discharge' lately, but sometimes notice that my panties are a little, erm, damp. I don't think that it is urine-I usually don't pee unless I sneeze several times in a row, or cough very very hard. I'm just wondering if this could be amniotic fluid or if I'm being paranoid?? Any ideas-sorry about the oogy topic.
:

Thanks girls!

Your doc or midwife can test the fluid to see if it's amniotic fluid or something else. My water broke at 31 weeks (slow leak) w/dd and I was sure it was nothing until I went in to get checked a few days later. My next 2 pgs, I was sure it was AF, but it turned out to be nothing but being extra 'juicy' (sorry, TMI).

Well, it wouldn't hurt to have it tested...But, I just wanted to throw this out there and it's WAY too TMI, but I, ummm, sweat a LOT down there these days (whether I'm in the a/c or outside).
: It's totally gross and I usually have to change my panties throughout the day because of the gross wetness. Could it be that?

Maybe it's just discharge too. Mine has changed a lot over this pregnancy, from none to watery to mucusy to sticky.

Hope you find out one way or the other.

Personally I've had to start wearing a cloth pantiliner some days because between the sweat from it being so hot and the extra discharge some days, I'm totally soaked, blech. But this has happened each time, even when I was due in January, so I think it's just our bodies' way of getting the exit ready for a baby to slide out. Still, you you always ask your OB/MW what they think.

I think you can tell if it's amniotic fluid-- even a small leak like I had produced enough wetness to need a pantiliner, as if I were peeing on myself.

Plus, I think amniotic fluid has a distinct smell.

If you have a cool midwife, you could get it tested, but by all means, stay out of the hospital!

Not that I know from experience, but someone from another board I post on said the smell is definitely different... almost bleachy. Hope that helps! (BTW... I too have increased in just regular ol' discharge, to the point where I need at least 1 underwear change a day... yuck!)

if your fluid is normal it should have a sweet smell to it. It is also described as non descript (whatever that means) I didn't know with dd#1 I thought I had peed or something (which I hadden done in the past) There was no smell. A few hours went by and there was a little more. I called my mw and they did a sawp to confirm yes my water broke.
