I am a mom to a 6 month old
: I breastfeed him and also bottle feed him (due to the low supply); however, every time my breast milk is about to "arrive" my breasts start leaking; while I'm nursing from one breast the other will leak, if we are outside, if we have friends over....at any moment of the day or the night...I am planning to BF my son till he's 2,5 or 3 years old, but cant imagine that for years to come I'll have to deal with breast pads
Is it really how its gonna be until he weans?

No, it will probably ease up soon. Since you know it's going to happen each time, try applying pressure to the side you're not using with your forearm (of your free arm). Gentle pressure to the nipple for several seconds seems to prevent the letdown from happening on that side.

Your breasts may keep leaking but not as bad. My breasts always leaked and I nursed my 3 children beyond 2.5 years. It is important not to press down on the breast as it leaks. This can lead to plugged ducts, infection, or decreased supply. I made my own breast pads from soft flannel blankets. You could collect the milk to mix with food.

Now that your baby is 6 months old perhaps you can stop any bottles. Since your baby is getting some nutrition from solids. Some people overfeed their babies and think a chubby baby is a healthy baby. If you want to breastfeed until your child until he is 3 now might be a good time to get off the formula.

Thank you foreverinbluejeans
Yes, I was planning to get him off the formula and only feed breastmilk+solids, therefore I've reduced the formula, however, he is refusing to take any bottle milk whatsoever, guess he knows whats best...whereas he was taking 6 oz before, now he might take only 1..he seems interested only in solids and BM, which is good, cause then i wont have to wean him off the bottle as well
Dr. suggested that I eliminate any formula whatsoever and feed him BM + 4 solid meals per day....though that seems like too much to me

What was your experience?

As far as leaking is concerned, at the beginning it was MUCH worse, now its better, but I hate wearing breast pads since then it looks REALLY weird under my tight tops
So, I guess I will just have to embrace the leaking reality for as long as I BF. And, WOW, you did it with 3 kids, thats like what? 6 years of BF and dealing with leaking
