My father is giving me my mom's serger ( my mom has dementia). I am so excited.

I have never used a serger before. I do know how to sew with a basic sewing machine.

Was anyone able to teach themselves to serge or should I try to hire someone to help me learn?

Thanks
The hardest part is learning how to thread it, IMO. If you take it into the dealer it was purchased from, they'll usually be willing to show you how to thread it.

I taught myself. I read the manual, then tried. Worked out well

I also taught myself. I rec'd a serger off freecycle and bought a manual online, taught myself how to thread it and its been non stop from there. I love my serger more than my sewing machine now. Its so much quicker, no bobbin to keep threading etc...

I am always looking for new things to make with my serger.

I really need to learn how to use my serger! I know how to thread it, and I use it to finish raw edges, but I've never actually used it to sew with. I know you can do lot's of things with a serger, I just need to learn! This post has inspired me
