My 9.5 month old has been learning how to walk - for 2 weeks or so, everyday he wants us to hold his hands while he "step steps" around and around the house. Today it's gotten weird- this morning, I walked him around for a while and he had fun and all was well - then an hour or so later he wanted to again. We got around to the kitchen and he stopped and started crying. Sometimes he fusses because we're not holding his hands just the way he wants us to, but that didn't seem to be the issue. I picked him up and tried to comfort him, but he wanted back down - so I put him down and took his hands and he took one step, and pulled his hand away and started crying again. NOw, everytime he wants to walk, the same thing happens - I take his hands, he takes a step or two, and gets really upset about something. I thought perhaps it was the kitchen floor, but he does it in other rooms as well. I am having a really hard time figuring this out. I checked over his feet and hands - there doesn't appear to be any owies - and he didn't protest me poking and prodding him so I don't think he's hurt. If anyone has any guesses or advice I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

My 14 month old is about 35 seconds from walking on his own and he does this too. I think he's frustrated because he wants to do it on his own and can't quite figure it out yet. JMO.

That's what my husband thinks - that he just wants to be able to walk on his own now. Maybe that is it - it didn't seem like it to me since he comes up to me to grab my hands like he wants my help, but gets mad when I do help. Confusing. This evening he was doing a lot of attempts to walk by himself as well though - taking 10-15 steps at a time - so perhaps that's all it is, he's just ready to do it alone. Can't believe my son has just about learned how to walk in 2 weeks. He seems to be in such a hurry with everything! sure is amazing.

yup, baby's frustrated alright. Sounds familiar. We made an effort to get our LO around other kids so he could see them mobile. It really seemed to help him work out some stuff. Plus, it's a great distraction. Mine also lost a LOT of sleep during the first few weeks of almost walking. So you may need to get ready for some sleepless nights while he works all this out.
