A few weeks ago, our car was stolen with our carseat in it. I found a used carseat for $20 a loooong bus ride off. So I pack up the diaper bag, put urklebaby in the sling, and head over. Urklebaby sleeps on the way there, but wakes up just before I have to get off the first bus on the way back. So I latch him on in the sling, pick up the car seat in one hand, and cover myself up with the tail of the sling with the other - more for warmth than for modesty, as I'm out in the Sunset district of SF, where the sun never shines. Once I get off the bus I realize I need that hand to steady urklebaby and cannot use it to cover myself with the tail, which meant that while crossing 19th and Taravel, the wind came up and exposed my happy nursling to a couple of hundred people. Yay us.
Many agencies have low cost or free seats available to those with a financial need. If the seat you got isn't safe, I may be able to help you find one that is.
