We'll be visiting San Diego for the holidays and are wondering if Legoland would be fun for our 27-month-old DD. I see their website says it's geared towards kids 2-12, but my guess is that older kids would get more fun out of it.

We'll be going to the zoo as well, which we do every year!

Thanks for the great post. We are thinking of going in a few months and I was wondering the same thing. My DSs are 32 mos and 16 mos. I know my older DS will love it, but wasn't sure about the little one. He is big and adventurous and very coordinated for his age, so I think he'll have a blast, too.

Any recommendations about where to stay nearby?

We took our 2 1/2 and 1 1/2 year old to Legoland and they did have a few playgrounds and climbing structures, but i think they could only ride on about 5 rides. It was a huge disappointment to us and I actually had wished we would have taken them to Sea World instead. But I think an older child - preschooler age (4ish) would do better. Most of the rides have height rules, so if your toddler is tall you might be ok.

We took my 2 1/2 year old DS back in July and we loved it. He had a blast. I think they have to be 34 inches to ride a lot of the rides, so that is kinda important. We found many rides that he was able to go on, but needed a parent to ride with him on most. The bummer for us is that my 6 month old DD wasn't able to go on much so someone always had to wait with her. I would highly recommend the park and I am looking for a time when we can go back soon. You can check out their website and see all of the rides that the kids can ride on sorted by their size.

Have fun if you decide to go.

We are local, so I know Legoland (and the zoo and Seaworld) really well. We've had memberships since the kids were small.

It may depend on what you want out of the day. If you are looking for rides and such, Legoland isn't going to provide that much for a small child (not that there are many better options in So CA). However, if you are looking for a few low key rides (with parents) and a place to play, then I think that LL is a great place for toddlers. Its less busy than Disney or similar. It has great play places -- musical fountains the kids can control, play village for free play, legos to build with, a great larger play structure, water playground with separate toddler-gentle water feature.

None of the rides that don't have height limits are long or scary. There are a couple of small roller coasters but they are 40 inch limits. Most of the gentle rides that I can think of are OK for all heights -- I think I can come up with about 10 that don't have limits on them.

Its definitely not more than a day's event, but can be a really fun day.
