Lemonade diet detox

523 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Village Mama
Anyone have any thoughts on the Master Cleanse or Lemonade Diet Detox? Now that ds is weaned, I am ready for a detox and a friend did this one. I read that you shouldn't drink laxative tea if you need to leave the house...well, I am a WOHM with a 30 minute commute. Hmmm....

Any thoughts?

peace,
Sara

I have a copy of that book. Honestly, it struck me as... absurd. But, in any case, I would never start any fast knowing that I have to spend an hour a day in a car. I would take a few days off of work, then start the fast on a weekend. You'll know by the time you need to start going back to work if you're going to be fit enough to do so, or if you need to abandon the fast.
It's a great fast. But it's HARD.

I never did the laxative stuff in the mornings, I did it at night. I always had some place to be, and the fear wasn't worth it.

If you do it, IME (and everyone I know who has done it), the hunger goes away after the 5th day (and hunger has always been present, even though you're drinking really as much as your stomach wants) and that's also when the food daydreams stop. It's hard to do when you're working, though, b/c the food smells always got to me. Even things I'd NEVER eat would smell sooooo good. Until after the 5th day, then I could go forever.

I am a master cleanse dropout!
I just felt too weak after a few days on it plus I have some blood sugar issues that just didn't work out well w/ it.
Thanks for the suggestion to start the detox on a weekend.

What about you, Mollyeilis? You say you always had somewhere to be, so I'm guessing that means driving...did you have any issues with driving while doing the detox? That is something I hadn't really thought about. I don't really have any blood sugar issues (that I am aware of, anyway!)

Thanks for the throughts!

I might have felt woozy, but it wasn't any much different than a diet, know what I mean?

As far as I know, the cleanse can actually help with sugar issues if you go all the way through it...

Anyway, any distractions I had weren't from wooziness or whatnot, but from fantasizing about HOW BIG the sundae I was going to eat would be.
And wondering just *how bad* it would be to jump over a cubicle or across the classroom and steal a co-worker's or fellow student's food.

Until the 5th day. After that I was fine.

Oh, depending on how you deal with hunger, you might think about starting on a Thursday. That would have worked for me. So you start on Thurs, it's still OK on Fri, but then on Saturday as the HUNGER hits and everything smells good to you, you're at home with a support group, rather than passing by everyone's Easter basket at work.
: Then the Monday would be the 5th day and you can make it through that, and then by the next weekend you'd be done (assuming the minimum 10 days) and you could start easing back into food.

I do want to urge you to truly EASE back into food. I've had a couple really exellent fasts ruined by, oh, trips to the food co-op (when I was living near Asheville, NC) and having "just a taste" of, um, everything in the store. By the time we would get home I'd be bloated and the detox would feel ruined, and I'd throw myself into a pizza. The times I've eased back into food (I've never done it perfectly, though) have been much better, and the good feelings from the fast lasted a lot longer for me.

I'm not an expert, but I've completed it 4 or 5 times and tried it several times, and have had a TON of friends complete it or not complete it around me, so I've really seen a lot of what works and what doesn't work.

Love that!

Okay! That's good advice. I think maybe I'll start it this Friday! Maybe. I don't know. I like the idea of the detox, but I'm kind of scared. I heart food SO much! And I am all excited about trying the rice and beans "nachos" recipe that someone on the boards gave me.

But at least now I'm not so scared about passing out in the car (I thought it wouldn't be too much of an issue, since there are calories in the maple syrup)

It is a very scary thing, to think about only eating that for x number of days. My first times I needed co-fasters.

Later I would make up little pages, breaking each day up into thirds, so I could cross out each third of a day as it passed. I'm a big write-down-do-it-cross-out type of person.

The last time I did it, I stopped on the 8th day so I could join Weight Watchers; I was just SO excited to join WW I couldn't wait any longer!

And about a year ago my husband did the ten day (yay!) and I was VERY jealous b/c I was (still am) nursing our son, and couldn't do it. He thought I was insane, to be jealous of him.

Funny, because I had been jealous of my partner for the few years when he was doing it and I was pregnant or nursing!
I finally was able to do this fast last year. I went 10 days. I wasn't too hungry... the lemonade really helped with that... but I fantasised about food like nobodys business. I practically spent the whole first week planning a sushi feast for after I eased off . I did really well but on the 8th day I began getting a bad headache... it got progressively worse on the 9th day and I started drinking the orange juice on the 10th.I lost 20 pounds and felt great and light.( I gained it all back within a month though! I suggest NOT doing this for weight loss. I think my metabolism may have suffered from doing it as well because I gained more on top of it too) The laxative tea really gave me bad cramps through the night. The salt water cleanse is great because it makes you feel a lot better, but I wouldnt suggest it if you are working!!!
Some people do really well on this cleanse like my skinny hubby who loves it. I really dont know if I would do it again. For my body type I find that I cleanse best by eating a lot of raw veggies and just a bit of protein in my diet.
Good luck finding the best one for you! Don't feel too discouraged if you don't make it the first time. This is a pretty major cleanse, and for a lot of people it is best to do it on holiday so you can rest if you need to. working and cleansing can be extra tough.
