I have the flu and my fever is 102. I know that letting a fever run it's course is best but i'd really like to tkae something for the pounding in my head. Does reducing the fever make the sickness last longer? If so, do you think it is a signifigant amount? TIA.

If you cannot rest, I would take the fever reducer. For me elderberry shortens the duration more than anything else. Usually most symptoms are gone by day 3.

Best of luck in getting better quickly!!

All my kids had excruciating headaches with the swine flu, so I ended up giving each of them a dose of Tylenol.

I was going insane and had to sleep. I don't know if it prolonged the flu or not, but I do know that the fever came back every time the painkillers wore off and didn't break until I stopped medicating it and just let it run its course.

Hope you feel better soon whatever you do!

Thank you for the replies. I ended up taking Ibuprofen when my fever got to 104 because I was so uncomfortable. Hopefully this goes away soon!
