I have a cast gold ring (as well as a traditional diamond set) but don't have my camera at work right now. The cast ring has leaves and vines all the way around. DH has a matching one.<br><br>
As far as vintage goes (I am a bit of a jewelry person) opals are known to be quite fragile so you might want to avoid those. Also, prongs on a vintage ring may weak/worn and replacing/rebuilding may end up costing more than a new, better ring. I went thorough this with two of my grandmother's rings.

I'm challenged in the posting-photos department, but I'm good at linking! <a href="http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://hemingjewels.com/img/NK627/NK627.jpg&imgrefurl=http://hemingjewels.com/product/diamond-half-hoop-ring/140/dress-rings/14/1&usg=__kwTD5grItJW1mp_pDNiW8mmR524=&h=600&w=600&sz=181&hl=en&start=2&um=1&itbs=1&tbnid=VVfs76QjEn0O5M:&tbnh=135&tbnw=135&prev=/images%3Fq%3Ddiamond%2Bhalf-hoop%2Bring%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26rls%3Dcom.microsoft:en-us:IE-Address%26rlz%3D1I7HPNN_en%26tbs%3Disch:1" target="_blank">This</a> looks very like mine. We bought it in the Burlington Arcade in London where my Mum and Dad got theirs, too. I was actually looking for something with sapphires as most of my family has had sapphires for engagement rings, but we fell in love with the one we got. The style is called 'half-hoop' and what I particularly like about it is that it's flat compared to a solitaire so it wouldn't get caught in stuff, the side work is usually ornate and lovely, and it stacke nicely with a wedding ring and birth-rings.<br><br>
I also have a smaller half-hoop Victorian ring to commemorate the birth of my second son. It's garnets and I love that...garnets used to be more often used in engagement rings, too.

My DH made mine as he's a metalsmith. It's white gold with pink tourmaline and swiss blue topaz.<br><br>
here's a link to it: <a href="http://squirrelforge.com/" target="_blank">http://squirrelforge.com/</a><br><br>
My DH is in the process of redoing his website, so I'm sorry it's not great right now.<br><br>
And I definitely second the no opals thing. You'll definitely want something higher on the Mohs scale. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohs_scale_of_mineral_hardness" target="_blank">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohs_sc...neral_hardness</a>

I have an antique band with no stones in it. It's white gold, very slim. It looks a lot like this: <a href="http://www.antiquejewelrymall.com/r625.html" target="_blank">http://www.antiquejewelrymall.com/r625.html</a> There's an old inscription inside it that says M.J.A. to H.R. 1/4/26. I <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/love.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="love"> it!

I don't have any of my old engagement rings. Yep, rings (they used to call me Diamond Girl.) <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/wink1.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="wink1"><br><br>

I've worn a ring just like <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325&tag=motheringhud-20&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FSterling-Silver-Celtic-Trinity-Heart%2Fdp%2FB000FZ3UGQ" target="_blank">this</a> for a long time, as our "promise ring". DP's mom gave us his grandmother's engagement ring to use as an engagement ring, which is fairly unique, I haven't seen any just like it. It fit me just perfectly. However, since DP hasn't proposed and it's not "mine" yet, I probably shouldn't share it yet. (though I do wear it all around the house when it's just us. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/biggrinbounce.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="bgbounce"> I love it.)

Pretty!! Did you get your rings from that website? I'm very interested, but smaller sites make me nervous.

DH and I have rings by the same artist! Ours is the "<a href="http://www.kelticnations.com/catalogue/rings/daonnan.htm" target="_blank">Daonnan</a>". The McPhersons are awesome to work with. We got our original rings in 2002. Mine had to be cut off when my hands swelled unexpectedly (literally overnight) during pregnancy. DH ordered me a new one this past Christmas. Greg has fine-tuned his technique and my new ring is even more gorgeous than the first. I highly recommend Keltic Nations.<br><br>
(And, no, they didn't pay me to say any of this. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"> )
