I just tried on my swimsuit and it is not going to work this pregnancy.
: I have 1 Dec. baby and 1 Nov. baby and was still able to wear my regular swimsuit with both of them b/c I was not "huge" (ie 3rd trimester) during summer. I am 27w Sunday and can just tell that this is not going to work in another month when the pool is open.

I lost a little weight before this pregnancy so I am probably between a 2x & 3x now. Does anyone know of a good source for plus size maternity swimware or something else that has worked for them in the 3rd trimester? I also have a large chest and do not care to let it or my belly hang out.

I am looking forward to letting my 4 & 2 yr olds play in the kid pool this summer, but I need something to wear!

I don't know about maternity swim wear specifically, but Lands End has some wonderful two pieces suits. The tops are like maternity shirts with a skirty bit and the bottom covers the belly generously. I am overweight when not pregnant and this suit still fits me at 29 weeks. I'm hoping it will work at term, which is mid to end of June- so I can still enjoy the water with my son!

I loved my tankini when I was pg with dd (she was born at the end of July). I too am a 2x/3x.
The one piece suits never worked for me - they didn't accomadate the gi-normous boobs.

I am plus sized, 28w pregnant and also very very large chested. All the plus size maternity swimwear that I've seen either won't work or is much to $$$ for the one, maybe 2, month(s) wear.

I do have a # of 2 piece "tankini" style suits, with skirty bottoms, that I hope will get me through. . otherwise I guess I just won't be able to invite anyone over the house to swim (we have a pool) because I'll be swimming au natural or in my skivvies

I'm on a search for a suit with a little more hip/thigh coverage. Has anyone tried men's swim trunks when pregnant? I wonder if they would stay up somehow with the drawstring. I personally need something that is meant for swimming because I will be at the public pools (thus the modesty issue).

If you look at the link I posted above, the swimdresses come to about mid-thigh...

I have a large chest to begin with and I swear by Targets selection. They have great suits in plus and maternity sizes. I also have to agree Tankini's are the best because you have room to grow comfortable and still have a suit for next year!

Thanks guys, I will look into those options. I just wish that I could go to something like Target or anywhere to try on any maternity clothes that are truly "plus" size. Other than Motherhood Maternity, I can not find a store that really has plus size maternity b/c I do not consider having a size XL or 1X as really carrying plus sizes that is just slightly extending your misses sizes.

I had no idea that Lands End had some things up to 3x. After looking, I think that LE or Maternity4Less might be my best choice for full coverage and a larger bust even though I am not excited about paying that much for one piece of clothing.

On the bright side, I just got an email from Land's End today that all their swimwear is 25% off through Sunday!
It's right on the main page, you don't need a special promo code for it.

I also hate spending that kind of money on any one piece of clothing - especially on something you wear on a very limited basis for such a short amount of time. BUT...being plus size myself, I can honestly say the first time I felt remotely "sexy" during my last pg was when I got my swimsuit in the mail. It was worth the $60 just for that feeling! And the feeling of not being exposed or like I'm constantly tugging at my suit to make sure my boobs aren't falling out - the support in a good suit is worth the cost, IMO. There's nothing like floating around a pool, feeling weightless and comfortable and good about yourself. It's certainly better than sitting on the side, trying to hide in an ill-fitting suit, feeling like a beached whale!

Oh, how I crave enough warmth for a good swim right now... *sigh*

I have a question for those of you who buy the Lands End swimwear...size wise, how do they run? Smaller than average? Or if I order a size will it actually be the size I order?

I want to buy a tankini, for swimming use & to wear the top of in the birth pool maybe, but I'm paranoid because I always have to try things on because sizes fit me differently. Only reason I hate to order things online, but I have ZERO options locally. Last year I finally found 1 suit at Sears that was plus size, it was a little big even, but it was the only thing I found so I got it. It's a one piece & I'd rather have something a little better &, like I said, a tankini.

Also, those with larger breast, do lands end soft cups really hold them in there? I've always had a problem getting my boobs to fit right in suits since they grew all those years ago. lol I'm a DD/DDD & even before the plus size days, they were still DD's, I never could get any good suits for my boobs. I considered ordering a suit with underwire, but that really limits my options.

Give me the confidence to order so I can feel like I can get the right suit the first time without dealing with a return!

Have you checked Old Navy-I had a maternity tankini from them when I was pg with DD. I'm a L, but I know much of their mat stuff goes up to plus sized.

someone gave me a motherhood bathing suit and I'm (when not preg) normally a L with a large chest. So, not exactly plus-sized but in the chest department I am. This one is an M and I can still cram into it and I'm 38 weeks. I've not put on much weight with this pregnancy, but am still surprised the M is covering me. They seem to have some grow-room. Anyway it was free so I'm just making it work.

I did see a preteen girl it the locker room really goggling at my belly while I was changing though! I'm swimming at a university pool so mostly undergrads in there. They seem sort of shocked and awed by my size... eyes widen and then they quickly avert their gaze. Its funny.

I got some cotton underwear that are shaped like shorts, and a cotton sport tank top that is mid-length. It worked great my last pregnancy and I intend to use it again this summer. Both are black, so not see-through when wet.

Mamas with LLBean tankinis, does your belly show at 9m pregnant? It just seems like it will be too short, I am not a mama that wants to show my stretch mark covered belly.

Target does not really have plus size maternity. They have a very few XL & XXL items but not really plus size.

Motherhood plus size clothes are hit or miss. I honestly would never buy their stuff without being there and seeing the quality and trying it on b/c their return policy is awful and I find the quality of half their plus size clothes to be very, very poor (thin/poor quality material and poor/spotty construction).

I am with treehugger about having a good swimsuit especially since I will be using it a lot May - August with 2 preschoolers and do not need any wardrobe malfunctions.
I think that I found one at maternity4less, but I am excited to learn that LLBean has plus size clothes. I will be shopping there for sure after this baby is born.

Actually with the tankinis I plan on buying a larger plus sized suit at Target not a Maternity one. The reason is if the suit will fit your bust they tend to be blousey enough to cover the belly, at least it seems to work that way for me, and since you can buy the bottoms seperate you can get a size that fits the way you need. I hope with the right fit, my belly will not really show since I am not that big on the idea of flashing my stretch marks either

I think you only need to buy maternity if you are buying a one piece.
