I think that is such a fun word to say...

Anyway, weirdness aside, my son is 5 weeks old and sometimes there is white stuff on the end of his penis. Is this smegma or is it jsut fuzz and stuff from the cloth diapers??

BTW, you can see where the "head" of his penis is under the forskin due to the outline of it. I am COMPLETELY apalled at the amount of skin that circ'ing takes off of the penis. HOLY MOLY!! My little man would have had half of his member taken off had we let him be slaughtered like that.

yup, that's a lot of penis removal. think of the penii you've seen with hair halfway up the shaft- imagine how much skin had to go to do that!

i was theoretically an intactivist as long as i knew circing existed, but now that i have sons it has become much more personal for me. welcome to the club!

RE: "I am COMPLETELY apalled at the amount of skin that circ'ing takes off of the penis."

What most people don't stop to think about is what they see is a double layer of skin. When it is cut off, unfolded, unrolled and laid flat, it is the size of his hand. Look at your hand and imagine a piece of skin that size taken off of your body and it becomes apparent that those who say "It's just a little flap of skin and it's just a snip." clearly have no idea what they are talking about.

To answer your original question....I don't know! I have never seen smegma on my son's penis. It was my understanding that smegma appears when the foreskin and glans have separated. Is that right? I've certainly seen a lot of fuzzy stuff from his cloth diapers stick to him, though, along with a vast number of cat hairs.

lol jane, i am not the only one with cat hair stuck to my sons' parts when we peel off at the dr's office.

sorry i didn't answer about the smegma, chanley, it was very late and i got to digressing. i don't know from smegma other than it was always one of my favorite words to use in mad libs when i was 11. i don't think i've seen any, but i don't poke around much. i'd prolly just think it was fuzzibun lint if i did.

Smegma is white and pasty. If you're female, you have it too. Its between your clitoris and foreskin and/or between your labia. (If you don't shower for a while that is.) Baby girls have more of it than adults. So if you care to "find" some, that's what it is!

The white emollient under the child's foreskin is called smegma.

Smegma is probably the most misunderstood, most unjustifiably maligned substance in nature.

Smegma is clean, not dirty, and is beneficial and necessary.

It moisturizes the glans and keeps it smooth, soft, and supple.

Its antibacterial and antiviral properties keep the penis clean and healthy.

All mammals produce smegma.

Thomas J. Ritter, MD, underscored its importance when he commented, "The animal kingdom would probably cease to exist without smegma."27
