Is it possible to protect against lice ... besides the obvious head-shaving idea?

DH said he heard rosemary, and said it's not just 'rosemary flavored' shampoo, but we'd have to get fresh rosemary and put it in the shampoo bottles. Okay, but is that just rumor or is it real?

Someone else suggested rinsing with vinegar, but that just sounds horrendous. If it would work, though ...

Any ideas?

Yeah, I have read that rosemary, TTO and other strong essential oils repel them. You could get a small bottle of the essential oil and put a few drops on a brush or in your hands and rub it in daily. Smells good too.

Pardon my ignorance ... when you say "the essential oil," you mean the TTO?

Okay, someone in a store told me to get rosemary essential oil, or some such. So I did. And they said to rub it into the scalp as a preventative measure.

Haven't tried it.

Is it dangerous to rub rosemary essential oil into a child's scalp? Or is it okay if it's diluted? Or am I just getting crazy here?

Any advice about essential oils appreciated ...

Oh sorry, and essential oil is an oil made from a distilling process. They are used in aromatherapy. They can irritate the skin so if I was going to put some on my little ones I would dilute it in a little olive oil first.

when I was young, my mother tightly braided my hair and drowned my hair in hair spray, if anyone tells you to do this, ignore them. I still got lice.

What did work was the doc at the navy base teaching me not to put my head near anyone elses head, share brushes, play with other people's hair ties or let other people play with my hair (I had hair beyond my bum, it was some people's favorite passtime)

I knew a lot of hippies back in the day that swore by TTO. Whenever they'd get lice they'd leave TTO in for a few days, and it seemed to work.
