In the 3 month old standing thread a few people have shared that their LOs who liked to be held to stand up ended up walking quite young (7 months and 8 months were mentioned).

So, what's your experience?

Ds1 loved to stand as a babe, wanted to walk everywhere instead of crawl. So he cruised and then walked assisted before he crawled. He didn't crawl until 11mo., so was doing the cruising around 8mo. I think. HTH! Mary

Thanks!

It occurs to me that it'd also be interesting to hear about babies who didn't care about standing and walked early.

DS1 stood as soon as he could bear weight, like 2 mos. He walked at 12 mos.
but he climbed the stairs at 7 mos.

My dd would pull herself to standing position holding onto a crib rail by the time she was 5 mo. But she couldn't get down by herself. She walked at 8 mo.

I think being slim and light is also a predictor of early walking. Bigger babies have more mass to move, and that slows them down a little.

I found it very hard to deal with keeping a walking baby safe. I actually wouldn't wish an early walker on anyone. My sons walked at 12 mo and that was much more civilized.

ETA to actually answer your question, yes, dd loved standing in our laps and being pulled to a standing position from a very young age.

Dd1 stood really early, she walked right after she turned 1. DD2 didn't stand at all until 11-12 months, she walked at the exact same time DD1 did.

My 7mo DD has been standing without holding on for weeks. She's been crawling like a maniac since 5mos, pulled up to standing the same day she started crawling. She tries to make people 'let' her walk when they hold her hands. It's amazing, my older one wasn't anything like this at all! I say do what works for each baby, they are all so different!

My 7 month old has loved doing a supported stand in our laps since he was 2 months old. He's not yet walking, but crawls with enthusiasm. He has just started to pull himself up on a few rare occasions. He can cruise a little bit if he is assisted to stand.

I would say no-

My son has always been "strong". People always commented on how well he held his head up and how he liked to "stand", maybe from 6/8 weeks??

Anyway, he turns 1 tomorrow (sniff sniff) and is not walking yet, and I see no signs of it happening any time soon. He's happy to walk behind a pushing cart type of thing, and is amazingly quick at crawling and cruising, but walking unsupported? Not so much

I think another factor in early walking might be how happy a child is crawling.

My dd hated it. It seemed to really bother her knees (and we had hard floors and she hit crawling age in warm weather so no pants to help cushion). She barely crawled before walking. She was really motivated to get up and go, lol!

dd ( almost 8 months) just got into standing over the last week.
She likes to stand ALL the time and can now "walk" while holding on to the couch.
She had no desire to stand before she could pull herself up to do so. Now that she can she loved it.

My dd loved standing even as a tiny baby, but didn't start pulling to stand up until 7 mos. She started cruising at 8 mos. For a while it looked like she really didn't want to crawl (we have very hard floors- ceramic tile over concrete) but at about around ten months she took to it, even though she'd already been cruising for two months. Since then, she seemed uninterested in trying to walk without support, until yesterday when she surprised us by taking a few steps all on her own 11.5 mos.

Sounds like my 9-month-old - who isn't walking yet, but has been cruising furniture for four months. She just started crawling (properly) a month ago!
