hey guys, I finally have a chance to update.

As anyone can guess I had lots of contractions starting with the house burning down. I kept myself well hydrated, took it as easy as possible and told my little one to hold off until we could get settled into someplace. I called the mw and told her what had happened and that I wasn't sure where I would be birthing, I didn't know if I could face the likely criticism to come from the hb and the arrival of a new child and loss of a home at the same time. Thankfully mom offered her home to us for the homebirth. The night of the fire I didn't sleep but maybe 2 hrs. However, when Monday (18th) arrived I had renewed determination. I gave my mom a list of all the things I needed for a hb and a new baby, as I now didn't have anything- diapers, clothes, etc. the mw said she had enough birth kit stuff for us, so that was taken care of thankfully.

We spent the whole day taking care of various things with the insurance and house. That evening the inlaws watched Luke and we went in for lunch and just a little time to ourselves. We hadn't even had a chance to process this much with just the 2 of us. We finally made it back to the inlaws and dh broke the news that we wouldn't be staying there. I packed up as quick as possible and we made it to my parents around 9. I called the mw and told her the hb was on. I took a benadryl before bed as I have faced labor and exhaustion before and I knew I needed my rest. I slept well until 2 or so, and then I took another. I had cramps all night long, but woke up feeling much more rested.

We had to met the insurance adjuster at 10:30, so I had to push back my appt with the backup ob. I had contractions at 5=10 min. apart all morning, but they were not enough for anyone else to notice. We met with the adjuster and got great news- our house was declared a total loss, so we will receive the full amount of our policy- we will need every penny to rebuild and replace our possessions. We finished with him about 12;15 And I called the ob's office to get a time to come in- they were out to lunch until 1, so I decided dad and I should get some lunch until then. (I was with my dad as my car burned in the fire as well- dh was staying at the house to get some work done). On the way to town I noticed the contractions were getting more regular and stronger. We got to the restaurant and I got a plate, I maybe ate about half before I realized today was labor day. I told dad I needed to get home, things were getting more serious and I felt a strong need to get settled in- we had to blow up and fill the birth pool yet and get everything organized- we didn't have the diapers yet.

WE went by dad's office to get his cell phone. I called dh and told him he needed to be getting to the house. I called the ob and resecheduled for Thurs (I needed to go in after the birth for a Rh shot). I called the mw and gave her an update and then we headed to my parents. Once home it was stressful to say the least we had to get everything organized and the pool filled all while keeping track of Luke and my niece that my mom watches (who is also 2). We couldn't get hot water hooked up to the pool, so we had to start boiling kettles full- thankfully mom has an old gas stove with a huge burner. My uncle came down and then my brother was there for a while as well. I had a very hard time really laboring with them there, I stayed in the bedroom but it was still stressful not having any privacy. Dh arrived shortly after dad and I very nervous that I was having the baby immediately. I labored for a while with him, relaxing in sidelying in the bed. Called the mw and updated her- we decided she would finish up her dinner and then head out- she lives about 1.5 hrs away. I then got 2 phone calls, so labor slowed down again for the hour I was on the phone, my cousin even asked if I was in labor, but I told her I was just having some contractions.

Finally, I was done with the calls, my uncle left, my brother left and took his daughter and Luke to his house(right up the road) and the mw arrived. I was finally able to really start laboring(this was about at 5pm). Contractions were getting more and more intense and were about 3 minutes apart. I realized I was hungry and I had my mom make some toast with butter and bananas. I kept chugging the emergen-C during delivery as well- I had a hard time staying hydrated last time so I really wanted to stay on top of it this time. They were only about 1 min long, but I know from my last birth that is how I labor. I really started wanting the pool. Finally after siphoning some off and filling it with hot a few times it was warm enough. I got in with my clothes on, I still wasn't feeling entirely relaxed. Shortly after getting in I started to need some counterpressure for contractions the mw and dh did a wonderful job with this.

Contractions were very intense. I felt them as painful, greatly different from last time. However, I never was able to fully let go mentally. Physically I was relaxing pretty well, but mentally my mind was all over the place. I knew I was heading into transition. I felt very strongly that I might not make it during contractions, however feeling this helped me know that I must be progressing well.

At some point the mw suggest I change positions from hands and knees to reclining. I tried it and it seemed to work just fine, I don't know that it was any better, but it worked. I relunctantly submitted to a VE about 8 pm. I was at least a 7/8 with a bulging bags. I felt that it likely wouldn't be long with how it felt. I labored through some very hard contractions and at 8:22 my bag of waters broke during one- I felt this huge release. Things really got intense at this point. Shortly after this I started feeling pushy. I knew I needed to get into a squat, but frankly I was scared. My body did a little involuntary push and at 8:25 I got up into squatting as my body wouldn't let me do anything else.

From this point my body took over and it was intense and painful. I curled like a momma cat and was an awesome pushing machine (I had had great diffculty pushing last time around and was afraid this time I wouldn't do it "right"). My body pushed until her head was right on the perineum- it burned and burned. I was moaning loudly and saying "it hurts it hurts." They begged me to slow down and put my hand on the baby's head- with much effort I did this. My body took over and then her head came out shortly followed by her body. She was born at 8:33 pm- only 8 min of pushing!!

She was beautiful and perfect and I immediately felt relief and joy. She has a full head of dark hair and weighed 7 lbs 7 oz and was 20.5 in long.

There is much more to right but the main things:

We are all doing very well. My milk started to come in about 16 hrs later. She has already gained back to her birth weight. She is a wonderful nurser and sleeper as well. I feel great physically and emotionally. I had no tear and feel like I haven't even given birth- I am ready for sex and exercise at this point. My bleeding has pretty well stopped as well. It all has just been a whirlwind.

thanks for your thoughts and prayers I will update more when I can.
