hi there - this is my first time posting.
i did a first response test yesterday and got a faint but definite line, did another test this morning and it was slightly fainter. am i being a crazy person? does this mean the pregnancy is going away? i thought the hormone increases rapidly in the first couple weeks? i'm not sure how many days past O i am, my cycles have been a bit wonky, but i think i'm supposed to get my period in a day or two.
i feel a bit nuts, also due to a rough night with my 2-yr-old DS.... help? has this happened to anyone else?

There are many things that can cause this but the MOST common one is that the second test wasn't as strong as the first, even if they were from the same batch by the same company in the same box, if it has less of the reactive enzymes on it it can show up with a fainter line...

and your hcg only doubles every other day... wait two days and take another if you want to see a darker line.

From what I've read, it's possible but rare it's charting a chemical pregnancy, but it's MUCH more likely that one test just has more ink in it than the other, or your urine was more concentrated the first time. A pregnancy test does tell you how much your pregnant, just that you are, so the color of the line doesn't matter.

Here is what I pulled off from Pee On A Stick website:

9. I took another test and the line is lighter. Does this mean anything? Should it get darker?

Not necessarily. In general, the positive line will be darker when a greater amount of hCG is present in the urine, but not always. Some tests contain more or less dye (meaning there is just more or less color to "stick" to your hCG.) Some tests are more or less sensitive-- even 2 tests in the same box can be different. Also, your urine may have more or less hCG in it depending on what you ate or drank, or how long it's been since you last peed. Food itself does not cause false results, but can affect how much urine you have and how dilute it is. Eating salty chips and drinking caffeine all day will result in more concentrated pee, whereas gorging on watermelon and ginger ale will result in lots of very dilute pee. But an HPT is not meant to tell you "how" pregnant you are. It only tells you if you are pregnant or not. As long as there is a line in the results window, you are pregnant.

Some women experiencing early miscarriages do notice their lines getting fainter or disappearing entirely, but even if your line gets fainter, it is not a guarantee that you are miscarrying, or that anything is wrong.

Hope this helps!

When I got my first BFP ever with my oldest son, it was a Thursday night after work. I tested again with the SAME brand test, the next morning with FMU and it was lighter. I freaked and took another brand and it was pretty much non existent. Just wanted to say don't worry unless you have to and it doesn't have to mean anything. Hope all goes well with you!
