Ok, I keep going back and forth over buying a curriculum or not for kindergarten next year. I really feel it would be a waste of money for me because I have a ton of resources. They just are not organized into a nice kind curriculum.

So if you don't have one, do you have a list that you refer to in order to make sure you are covering everything for that grade? I know in my state at least she will need to be assessed at the end of the year. How do I know I am covering everything?

Thanks!!

Check out Rebecca Rupp's book Home Learning Year by Year. Also check your State's education department website which will likely give you a list of outcomes for each grade.

Your state should have a scope and sequence by grade, probably available online. They are usually very cumbersome and written in education-ese, so I've never found mine helpful.

I much prefer to look at the simple list offered by World book encylopedia; we also occasionally read "what your __ grader needs to know."

A lot of the state standards are vague at best. I really like the Core Knowledge Scope and Sequence. That's what the "What your Nth Grader Needs to Know" books are based on. There's one for prek (2 years) that's mostly developmental milestones, and one for K-8. I refer to it for ideas for activities and to make sure I'm not inadvertently excluding something important from the kids lives. lol. Like, I wouldn't have though about musical and art theory and stuff but my kids love Chopin and ds 8 is saving for tix to Swan Lake now. I didn't "teach" it, but the scope and sequence had it listed and I though "oh cool. I think I'll put on that music today" and it led to discussions and ... blah blah blah.

anyway... www.coreknowledge.org is their site.
