Can someone tell me about them - what they are, how to make them/where to purchase them?

I've been reading about them on here and am intrigued.

I've got some raw beef liver in my freezer. Can I shave some of that and put in a gelatin cap? If so, what is the standard dose?

Thanks!

It's actually more simple than that. You can just cut the frozen liver into pill-size pieces and swallow. You don't taste a thing; there's no need for gelatin caps. Suggested amount is about a teaspoon a day, which for me is about two pills (but I can swallow large pills).

If that freaks you out, you can always buy freeze-dried liver pills, but they're pretty expensive.

Here's the link that inspired me to try my own raw liver pills:
http://editor.nourishedmagazine.com....actor-of-liver

So far, on day three, I can definitely feel a difference in my energy, and it's just nice to know that I finally have an affordable, do-able source for this nutrition.

OK, gotta go, DH wants the computer..!

I am going to try the frozen raw liver also. I'm starting tomorrow.

We had a pastured/grass-fed beef liver in the freezer, and today I cut off several slices, and then cut those slices into smaller chunks, each about the size of a large pill. I put the chunks in a separate container and back in the freezer. I didn't have the guts to start today but I will start tomorrow.

However, I did throw a handful of the raw beef liver chunks into some turkey vegetable soup I was warming up for dinner. I wasn't sure I'd like the taste but I did; it added some great flavor, and I did feel noticeably better after eating that soup.

My energy has been low and my ferritin level is low; I hope having some of the raw liver daily will help solve both problems.

great! Thanks ladies. I'm going to start this morning.

One more thing...the liver should be safe if frozen for at least 2 weeks, right? I had some BIG trouble with various pathogens at the start of this pregnancy. While I can't say where I acquired the pathogens, I'd like to try and avoid a repeat.

I'm 21 weeks too!

On the Weston Price site linked here http://www.westonaprice.org/foodfeatures/liver.html there is a comparison chart of the various livers and the nutritional content of each. Chicken liver appears to be broken down 'per liver' (probably b/c they are so small), the larger animals are broken down 'per pound'. IN any event, it is very informative.

I just took my first dose about an hour ago and noticed I flushed a bit afterward. I feel pretty darn good right now and I hope it isn't placebo effect.

I've had raw beef liver pills yesterday and today. I can't say I've noticed a huge difference yet, but I did eat them in place of coffee and did not get the headache I usually do when I miss coffee.

I swallowed my pills with cranberry juice. Right when I put them on my toungue I did get a wee taste of blood. Also, with being frozen, the little chunks are very cold going down and in the tummy.

Tomorrow I'm gonna let it thaw -- I don't like swallowing it frozen and think room temp would be much better.

I tell you though, the thought of taking REAL FOOD as a pill is much more motivation to me than remembering to swallow some other vitamin or supplement. I feel very traditional !

thankyou mbravebird for introducing this the other day

I used to take the liver pills from here

they were ok, but now I get the ones from dr. Rons and I LOVE them. It says to take 6 of these for 1 oz of liver, but I usually just take 3

Hi All...

I've been taking about 1/2 of liver on average 5 days a week. I used to cut it up into "pills" and swallow, but nowdays I've just been adding it (frozen) to my daily smoothie and I cannot taste it at all. It just makes things faster.

I drink a raw egg drink Mon-Fri (Sat. and Sun. we have more fun and epicurean breakfasts!). Some of you will think this sounds gross, but here it goes...

3 raw eggs
2 T. Coconut Oil
2 T. organic butter (raw if I have it)
Cinnamon
1 T. Molasses (good for minerals and sweetness)
2 t. bee pollen granules
1 t. Azomite
1 t. Acerola (blends in well, can't taste the tartness)
1/2 ounce raw, frozen, pasture raised beef liver
about 1 Cup hot water

Put it all in the Vitamix and blend on High for at least one minute. You end
up with a warm "egg-nog" type drink that gets you a huge amount of superfoods, friendly fats, and proteins quickly. It doesn't taste bad (I've actually come to like it), although I will admit that the smoothie I make for my girls tastes a lot better.

Theirs is:
Raw milk
Homemade yogurt
Raw honey
Banana (1/2 per girl)
Acerola Powder (1/2 t. per girl)
1 egg for each girl
1 T. Coconut Oil for each girl
Bee pollen granules
A tiny bit of molasses
Azomite powder (1/2 t. per girl)
Frozen berries

Just blend and serve. We serve it with gluten free toast and lots of butter. I can hide a lot of superfoods in here and they've been having far fewer illnesses since serving this every weekday.

I also do homemade yogurt every day for myself, raw milk, a quart of either nettle or RRL infusion (with a few drops of kelp and dandelion tincture thrown in), butter oil and CLO with dinner for everyone. Sometimes I do a non-tradtional supplement like CalMax (powdered Calc/Mag) in some tea at night to help with sleep.

I am 33.5 weeks along with #4 and feeling pretty good this time!

Thought I'd share...

Liver sisters! This is great. I managed to get some in my 3 yo by grating it on his toast -- he likes nutritional yeast on his toast, so I just put it under the nut yeast. I guess the yeast taste is strong enough that it disguised the liver.

When I took this brand, I found that three did me fine as well. I have to say, though, the energy difference I feel now, on day 4, is more noticeable than when I took the freeze-dried pills. But I took the organ mix before, never all liver.

Holly, I love those smoothie recipes! You must be feeling superhuman, downing all that stuff! Have you developed any superpowers yet? Maybe 34 weeks and feeling great is superpower enough. I'm going to consider doing that, once I get myself back on the wagon with my basic stuff again. Is Acerola just unsweetened vit c powder?

so is 2 tsp equal to an ounce of liver? i've gotta try this. i'm taking the new chapter b's right now, and they do make a big difference in my energy level. but i have to take 6 of them a day, $40+ a month. which is ridiculous, but without it i have no energy to handle my two little ones. i don't know if i can get any grassfed liver right now, maybe i'll try dr. ron's caps. $27.95 a month is still cheaper.

I don't know about "superhuman," but better than I have felt in previous third trimesters! I am a recovering celiac with less than stellar absorption and have to overdue this stuff to get proper nutrition it seems.

Hope the info helps!

Liver sisters! I love it.

This morning I had my two "liver pills" (frozen chunks of raw beef liver) with my cup of kefir. That was, umm, interesting. I think I need to cut them into smaller pieces so I don't feel the big frozen chunk sliding down my throat into my stomach. The sensation was a little disconcerting. But, I didn't taste anything, so that's good.

Tonight I had more beef liver for dinner. I have been feeling so tired and anemic lately, I thought it couldn't hurt to have extra liver. I've never cooked beef liver before.

I cut the liver into thin slices, soaked them in buttermilk, then dredged them in a mix of white whole wheat flour with sea salt, black pepper, red cayenne pepper and garlic powder. I sauteed sliced onions in butter, then removed those from the pan and lightly cooked the liver slices in the remaining butter. It was quite tasty! Much better than the shoe-leather liver I remember eating in my childhood.

After all this liver, I sure hope I have some ENERGY tomorrow.

Hey liver sisters. Just wanted to let you know that this morning I let my little liver pieces thaw on the counter for about 15 minutes and it was soooo much easier to swallow them. But they stick to your fingers so it probably would havee been easier if I used a utensil to get it in my mouth.

Anyone tried taking it more than once in a day? I'm thinking I might take some more this afternoon.......

I took it twice yesterday, probably a total of 2 tsp. I have a question; I'm taking the Weston Price rda of Cod Liver Oil, will the additional liver somehow overload me with too much vitamin a? I assume it won't.

I feel more energetic. Placebo effect or liver? I don't know yet. I have a really bad headache from some dietary indiscretion last night and this morning so I'm fighting that...but.....I think my normally sallow skin color is a bit more lively today. I gave some to my 5 yo dd and my 6 yo ds yesterday and today as well. My 5 yo seems to have better coloring regarding her complexion too - normally she is a bit on the pale side, today she is showing a bit of pink around her cheeks and they dark circles under her eyes are much less noticeable.

We'll see.

Ahhh, the lengths we'll go to. Good luck in finding some pills. What about grating the frozen liver into something - juice or milk?

I swallowed my frozen liver chunks again this morning. This time I cut them into really small pieces, maybe about 8-10 pieces total, and swallowed two at a time with some kefir. I didn't taste or feel them so it wasn't bad at all.

What I do with most pills/supplements is to take a sip of water (or milk, kefir, or whatever I'm drinking) and tilt my head back, holding the liquid in my mouth... then drop in the pill and swallow the liquid. Voila! That way I never feel the pill in my mouth. (I've always hated the feeling of pills starting to dissolve in the mouth before you can get a sip of water and swallow them down.) My DH thinks this is very strange, as most people put the pill in their mouth and then take a drink of water and swallow it...but I find my method much easier! And it definitely works well for swallowing things like frozen beef liver chunks.

Do you all cut your liver "pills" while it's still frozen? Is it hard to cut, or do you let it thaw a little first? I plan on buying some liver from the farm we've been getting our meat from this weekend, but it'll be already frozen. I was always taught that you can't refreeze meat once it's been thawed, but I'm not sure why....

I have 5 lbs. of grass-fed beef liver in the freezer, I just have to get up the courage to try this!
