I love the conference. This'll be my sixth one, I guess. (Time flies!)
Lots of people will have kids with them. Generally moms/dads with toddlers tend to hang out in the back of the rooms. There's usually some open space back there behind the chairs. I've always brought lots of toys in a bag. I usually start out feeling self-conscious for toting around so much stuff, but then the kids who don't have a toy stash always come over and share ours.
If your little one starts being noisy, then taking a break from the session is a good idea. (This is especially true (lower noise level expected) for the CEU/CERP sessions. They're marked in the brochure. They're the more technical sessions that healthcare providers can get continuing ed credits for.) But really, truly, kids and babies are expected and welcome in the sessions. It's one of the things that contributes to the really neat atmosphere of the conference. (There's also Romp 'n' Roar, a room with toys set up for toddlers to play in.)
All that being said, I won't actually be bringing my kids this year. They'd be happier at home, even without me. (I'm only going during the days, though, not staying over at the hotel.) In the years that I've brought one or both of them, I've found that it's so much easier if dh is with me. Even with just one child, it's nice to be able to take a break from keeping him/her happy and entertained in an unfamiliar setting (and it's nice to be able to go to the restroom by yourself!). I believe even with registering at the door, a father/caregiver (could be anyone, like a grandmother, aunt, whoever) is free with your registration (although they don't get meals included with that). (If you'll be leaving your child with the caregiver, say in Romp 'n' Roar, the caregiver needs to be at least 12.)
I'm looking forward to it. I can't believe it's this weekend already!
