Lochia or AF? (tmi)

833 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Oliviasmom
I gave birth six weeks ago. Over the past week, my lochia had become almost non-existent, just a little pink mucous here and there.

Now today, I'm definitely spotting red blood. Not a heavy flow, like my periods normally are, but true spotting.

Is this still lochia or is it a period? Any ideas?

TIA

Have you suddenly gotten more active? If you've started exercising, walking, lifting etc. it could cause the flow to start up again. If this is the case, sit down and rest and it should slow.

Doing too much too soon is a typical cause of resumed bleeding.
Wow, i didnt know that! learn something every day. resumed bleeding?--- as in the blood left from delivery and pregnancy is coming out more?

"Resumed bleeding" isn't a diagnosis--(just my wording) but yes, if you're too active post-partum the bleeding can increase. If resting doesn't slow it down, I'd call the midwife/ob to see if something else is up.
My dd was born 1 day after your child. I experienced something similar. When I asked my midwife about it she suggested that as my daughter sleeps for 5-6 hours at night that my period may have started up again. She suggested that if your child is not nursing every 4 hours that this is very much to be expected. Maybe the same thing is happening here?
