Longest duration between bowel movements in EBF infant?

My 7.5 month old is exclusively breast fed. And I cannot for the life of me remember when he pooped last!
I *think* it was maybe last friday or saturday evening, but that makes it definitely longer than a week ago. I'm not worried about it at all - I know they can go a long time, and he's urinating fine and not in any pain at all - but I always thought 4-5 days was "long". My daughter was eating some solids at this age, and 3-4 days was her norm.

And watch, now that I'm posting the question, he'll poop all over the place any second.

But is it still within the range of normal to go over a week with no poop??

LOL I remember mine going for long periods of no poo too. But when they *did* have that first poo after the long break....watch out!
Actually they can go 15+ days! Jake used to go every 13 days like clockwork lol. Here's a link from kellymom http://www.kellymom.com/newman/04enough_milk.html

Some breastfed babies, after the first three to four weeks of life, may suddenly change their stool pattern from many each day, to one every three days or even less. Some babies have gone as long as 15 days or more without a bowel movement. As long as the baby is otherwise well, and the stool is the usual pasty or soft, yellow movement, this is not constipation and is of no concern. No treatment is necessary or desirable, because no treatment is necessary or desirable for something that is normal.
yeh, I remember my daughter would go 11 days. The first time I freaked out, but then realized that it's normal.
Dd has gone five days and then there was a massive BLOWOUT!!! We try not to obsess about it, but we lay down blowout pads beneath her in the crib, carseat, and sling when it's been awhile. That way we just have to wash the pad and not everything else.
My dd poops about once a week. I think the longest we've gone poopless is around a week and a half.
we went a good 12 days once... and MAN oh MAN was it ever enourmous when he decided to go....
Between the ages of 5 months to about 10 months, my first DS would poop on schedule, every Tuesday afternoon, between 2:00-5:00 PM

Just once a week!

Yes, I'm starting to become afraid of the mess that almost certainly WILL happen when he finally decides to go!

I'm definitely glad that some others here have experienced some long poop breaks. It's one thing to hear it's normal, another for others to say they've had the same experience with no issues

I remember we went over ten days once. Boy was that a gigantic poop.
I love that when DH is home he has full diaper duty and DD usually saves her blowouts for him. Currently we're on Poop Watch 2006, day 6.

:

I thought my ds was the only one w/ such an accurate bowel1

At the age of 4 weeks the pooped every third day right as mommy sat down to watch Home Improvement! (but he was supplemented so diaper changes weren't quick like they are w/ just breast milk!)

Hi, I am new on this site.
A question to all of you - were your children fussy when not going? when my son did not go for 3 days his doc's office told me to use supposatory (sp.)
did any of you use the glycerin supposatory?
My son hasn't been fussy at all. If not for the fact that I know haven't washed a poopy diaper in over a week, I would maybe even think he has been pooping every day, his mood is so great!

I'd take a look around at the LLL's website or Kellymom.com for info about constipation for your son (if it's still an issue?). Prune juice would definitely be the first thing to try, in my book, NOT a suppository, if he is in fact constipated.

from about 5-10 months dd went about once a week, maybe even 8-9 days between BMs sometimes.....but when she did, it was a huge event!
EBF Ds1 used to go 10-12 days between poops and there was never any constipation. My other babes went multiple times daily. But ds1 for the first 6+mo would go forever in between poops. As an 9yo he has totally normal bowel habits now.
