Totally excited about #2, Due July 31! I am stocking up on books for me, my Inlaws, my mom, and my hubbie to read and share. Especially his side is very avid readers so I want to supply them with the "proper" reading materials.<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/winky.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Wink"> I want to cover all bases, questions (is HB safe?), technical HB info, emotional, general. Do you think these are a good start?<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/loveeyes.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Loveeyes">:<br><br>

You should definitely include Dr. Mayer Eisenstein's book, The Homebirth Advantage. He is a HB doc that has delivered around 20,000 babies at home in his 30 years of practice. Also, he does not vaccinate his patients and has not a single case of autism in all his years of practice, and he wrote a good book on vaccinations too.<br><br>
His books are on his website here:<br><br><a href="http://store.homefirst.com/books.html" target="_blank">http://store.homefirst.com/books.html</a><br><br><br>
Here's an article on his practice:<br><br><a href="http:/vaccine/olmsted1.html" target="_blank">The Age of Autism</a><br><br>
And I would get <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325&tag=motheringhud-20&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FEmergency-Childbirth-Gregory-J-White%2Fdp%2F0934426015" target="_blank">Emergency Childbirth: A Manual</a> for the technical aspect of birth for your dh.

I've been reading Journey into Motherhood: Inspirational Stories of Natural Birth and it's wonderful. It's full of beautiful stories of childbirth, some are home births and some are not. It's given me such a positive view of birth and I'm still not finished with the book.<br><br>
I also recommend Gentle Birth Choices but I would add it as a last option just because you've got most of the topics in the book covered with the list you have already.

Active Birth by Janet Balaskas was really helpful for me. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/thumb.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="thumbs up">

Giving Birth is a must read on midwives and home birth compared to OB's and hospital birth. It is full of facts and really puts home birth in a positive light. I loved it and recommend it to every one.<br><br><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325&tag=motheringhud-20&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FGiving-Birth-Journey-Mothers-Midwives%2Fdp%2F0399527885%2Fref%3Dpd_bbs_sr_1%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Dbooks%26qid%3D1197125899%26sr%3D8-1" target="_blank">http://www.amazon.com/Giving-Birth-J...7125899&sr=8-1</a><br><br>
I would also rent a copy of The Business of Being Born and get them to watch it.<br><br>
I have read all the books on your list and loved them too <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">

I would also recommend Gentle Birth Choices because you can get the DVD with it for a very reasonable cost. Now, the DVD focuses on birth center birth, but there really isn't much in that birth center that is too extraordinarily different from what would happen at home. It is at least a stark contrast to conventional hospital birth. There are nice water births. DH felt that he got a lot out of it, and we had a home birth.

Old Fashioned, but I LOVE Spiritual Midwifery and Susan Weed's Wise Woman Herbal for the Childbearing Year. I also have Janine Pavarti's Prenatal Yoga book . . .
