I am taking the advice of a feeding therapist and setting a timer for Nitara to sit in her chair and eat. At the end of that time she is allowed to get down whether she's finished or not. Her reward is her binky. She is allowed to hold it if she cooperates and has good manners at mealtime. When it rings the meal is over whether she's finished or not, and she gets to suck on her binky. It's going really well! (Also giving her milk of magnesia and it appears to be helping her take more volume and feel better. Yeah!)

She's afraid of the standard egg timer. She says it's scary and too loud. I even put tape on back of it where the sound comes out but she doesn't like it. What I liked about it is that she could see the "O" moving towards the top and when it got to the top she knew she was getting close to being done. Now I'm using the timer on the microwave and she of course can't read numbers to know when she's close to being done. She will start asking repeatedly if it's going to beep soon starting at about 5 minutes into the meal.

Do you know where I might be able to find a clock or timer (beeping, not loud ringing) with an easy to read visual cue so she knows that she's getting closer to being done? Thanks!

Oh that does look like fun!! Too bad it's $40. Why can't I be rich?

ETA: I found a 3 inch one for $25 but for just $5 we can have the cool red/yellow/blue one. Maybe the small one would be better for travel though. Decisions, decisions . . .

We use this one and it is great. I love the travel size. It was a lifesaver at disney. It is great because of the visual it uses in counting down.

It does not make any sound when it is done so you kind of have to keep an eye on it. If my son is waiting for something he is really good about watching it. If it is counting down time left of something fun or to a transition I have to call his attention to it at intervals (ex. "Look mike, 3 more minutes left")

I have seen the colored one and it does make sounds. Not sure you can adjust the volume. It is someone talking and saying "Times up" I think. I just remember thinking it was annoying.

Oh look here! A demo on your computer! This would be cheap.
I can set up the laptop at the table. I will probably order the travel one though, just because I can see it being useful for a lot of things with both kids.

Right now just 10 minutes. But I think I will go ahead and order the small one soon. I'm going to have to increase by one minute intervals eventually.

It is a good idea. Mine has paid off it's $25 many times. It is great getting the small one because it comes with a little case you can slip in your purse. Heck mine right now is about 2 ft from me where it just counted down ds's remaining time on his video game.
