I am looking for a doctor in Leesburg Lake county or somewhere close. Even NorthWest Orlando is ok. I have heard good things about Dr Cannizzaro in Longwood, but that will be quite a drive for me. I am planning an UC and need someone that I can take baby to after and won't give me a hard time. Also non-vaxing. Any one have someone to recommend?
Thanks!

I'm in Apopka, near the Lake/Orange line, so my suggestions may be a bit too far for you. Also, you should know that my baby isn't due til April, so I haven't had experience with getting care in any of these practices, just research and conversations.

I haven't met Dr.Cannizzarro yet, but my chiro recommended that practice-she's non-vaxing and uses them for her daughter. We met recently with Dr. Rodriguez, who is in Maitland, near I4, who we liked, and who was very up front about vaccinations-he doesn't routinely do Rotovirus for his vaxing patients, he won't discharge for not vaxing, and if you want to delay/selectively vax, he just asks for a written copy of whatever schedule you want to use. (Side note-I do know that a lot of the Heart 2 Heart Birth Center people go to Dr. Rodriguez for the first newborn evaluation-he'll take them as walk ins if its during normal hours, and suggests that you call if it's not during normal hours because he'll sometimes come in on the weekends to see you for a first evaluation anyway.)

The other names that come up regularly in conversations with people are Dr. Franz, who is down in Orlando, I think, and Dr Ramey, who is in Oviedo. If I live closer to 46, I'd think about going to Oviedo, but that's just too far for me to go with a sick child.

My Doula suggests Dr Ramey (who I know far less about) or Dr Rodriguez, depending on your location. We discussed all four of the ones on the list I had and her feelings abut Dr Franz and Dr Cannizzarro were that they were both very good at what they do and worked well with patients and parents but both of them are getting to a point where their practice is larger than they can really handle and people aren't really getting the same personal attention and care that they do in the smaller practices.

We haven't yet had the need for a pediatrician...I'm not due til April, so I can only share what I've been told. Good luck.

I'm not entirely sure what we'll do.

You're welcome. I hope some of it is useful to you. I know it feels like we're waaaay out there (I'm not far from the end of the 429) whenever I have to go towards Orlando, so I was glad to find someone in Maitland and to have another recommendation in Longwood. I wish I could help more with actual recommendations though.

I have been to both Dr. Franz and Dr. Ramey. Dr. Franz's practice is quite busy. The bonus imo is that she is a homeopath and so your insurance will pay for you to get homeopathic treatment for your little ones. The downside of her practice imo is that she is pretty strict about her policies and has been known to call DCF on parents who don't do as recommended. Now I am sure that this is an extreme, but it made me worry a bit when I had problems with dd's growth. I didn't want to get invasive and so I left before they could offer - plus it was a really far drive for me... I did take dd there days after her birth and saw Dr. Franz who congratulated me for birthing at home. She was super nice but I never saw her again in 2 years time - always a PA and Dr. Martinez who joined her practice I saw and she blew off every concern I had and I HATED that. Esp bc it turned out there WAS something wrong with dd.

I saw Dr. Ramey in Oviedo back in Dec and LOVED her. Her practice is still quite small and EVERY staff member thanked me for driving from Deltona to see them. Also all the staff doted on both my kids, not just the sick one. They let my older one help out with the younger ones visit. Very neat. I asked about taking hb babies and she said she wants a visit within 72 hours and she wants the paperwork from the midwife. (which seemed like a royal pain imo since I didn't do that with Franz but...) At this point, Dr. Ramey is our plan for post-birth on #3 but that could change depending on our insurance situation at the time.

Anyhow - there is a website called The Central Florida Greenguide that will have reviews and locations that you can check http://centralfloridagreenguide.com/ to aid you in your search.

Good luck!

I also go to dr. Ramey. The paper work thing is simple if you go to Michelle Gawne at the heart 2 heart birth center. I didn't even have to ask for it. She gives you copies of everything.

I looked up thier website and found more than one Carlson? That would be the closest place to me! Also, I can't find a phone number? One was no longer in use and the other I found was the police!

Treeof3, I am not using a midwife, we are planning an uc. What type of paperwork would they need for Dr. Ramey? Sorry to ask so many questions! I actually haven't seen a doctor in many years and never for anything like this so it is all very new!
