I made the baby-to-be a couple of pairs of longies with seed stitch at the bottom and I really want to make a hat to go with them. Even a 3-6 mo size would be fine too, as the pants will be big for a bit, so can the hat...lol
I would rather a free one, but if I have to, I will even pay for it! I am using HPY worsted weight yarn and I hate to knit anything under size 5....picky huh? :LOL any ideas?
TIA

weeeeellll... You can look what I would do is estimate the head size ( see the same site, here), knit a quick seed-stitch swatch in the yarn you want to use and see how many stitches per inch you have. Then, multiply the stitches per inch by the inches for the estimated head size and you have your cast-on.

From there, you can pretty much fudge it. Work the seed stitch for an inch or so, then switch to stockinette. You'll have to figure out how many rows you need to decrease to the ending number of stitches, then estimate how many inches that will end up creating (in hat height). From that, you can determine how many rows of plain stockinette you want to knit to make up the difference in the hat height.

This seems very complicated, but it really shouldn't be. Frankly, since you'll be casting on more than the pattern calls for, the extra stitches may provide the extra rows (and, thus hat height) you need even following the pattern.
