Looking for a midwife in Ca.

I had my first birth in a hospital, needles to say, it didn't go as I planned. This time around I want to have a water birth, most likely at home. So I am looking for a midwife.

Now, my question is this. I feel, what is the most important for me is that this person is a good match for me, I need somebody whom I can trust, basically I want somebody with a personality that won't overpower me but rather empower me, if you kwim. Of course, I would like that she has an experience, too. But I need to know how to find such person. I found through internet a few midwives in my area, now, do I need to contact them and ask for an interview? Does a midwife charge for an interview? What questions are commonly asked during an interview?

Anything that might help me would be appreciated.
