Hi Ladies,

We just moved here from CO, and I'm 20 wks pg and have 10 and 8 year olds, as well. I would love to connect with a naturopath here (or anywhere within an hour or so of here, actually!). I'm planning on a UC for this baby, but if anyone knows of (or IS) a midwife who could support that choice in the area, I'd like to hear about her too! Barring a local ND, if any of you can recommend a pediatrician who would be open to working with (and accepting as is!) a non-vaxing, intact, uc-friendly, EBFing family, that would be wonderful!

We had a wonderfully supportive ND in CO, and we miss her already, but Northern CO is a bit crunchier than the SE in general, it seems, so I'm open to anyone's recommendations!

Thank you for any info!

Welcome to Greenville! I'd say we're a whole heaping lot less crunchy than Northern CO! You must be shell-shocked.

Naturopath: Terry Hall Hines at Creative Health. Some families choose Susan Stegall who is trained in integrative medicine. Lots of families choose Keith Stafford. He is a more conventional family physician but who supports the parent's choice in care. Many families (including mine) who do not vaccinate go to him.

I'll pm about UC.

Earthy Mama--I moved the Blessingways to Natural Baby. Earth Fare was gracious and wonderful but it was loud and their floor was not the best place for crawlers.

Ahem, yes, so we have Blessingways each month. The 4th Sat. at 2pm at Natural Baby in downtown Gvle. The purpose is to create a supportive place for positive birth stories and mindful information. This month's story (Jan 22) is a first-time mama sharing her homebirth story and the topic is "Going Green in the Nursery and Saving Money."

Dr. Stafford is taking new patients. But he has dropped some of the insurance he used to accept.

Lizzie, at least we welomed you with some snow so you could feel more at home!

The Blessingway sounds wonderful! I saw Natural Baby downtown just the other day and had already mentally noted getting back there when I could. Can anyone come? Do you prefer older children stay home? Should I sign up or RSVP somewhere? Anything I should know generally? :)

YEAH... I guess you guys did welcome us with snow! Holy cow. But ice storms are very rare back in CO, so we were happy we didn't have to do any more traveling once that got going! We're hoping something milder is the norm? We were taken aback, to say the least. A lady told me this was the worst she'd seen it in forty years... and here I was believing this happened every year! :)

Lizzie, we moved here in 87 when I was 9 from Ohio. I remember thinking how great it would be not to have to wait for the school bus in the snow and cold. Well, then comes the winter storm of 88 and everything shut down for 2 weeks! It really is an anomoly for these parts.

Helgatoes, do you know what insurance he dropped? Is it medicaid? Cuz that's what the girls are on at the moment with me only working part time and tony isn't getting insurance from work yet.

Earthy Mama--he still takes Medicaid. :)

Lizzie--anyone can come. No need to rsvp. I try to post an event link on the Natural Baby facebook page. So you can "like" them on fb to stay informed. ANY children are ALWAYS welcome. Natural Baby is super relaxed about kids in the store and has toys set out for little kids. There is an adorable mushroom table with toadstool chairs in a kids area. Our Blessingways are relaxed and generally a tad chaotic with littles about and crying babes. Usually we have a dad or two who attends. Always a pregnant first-time mama who looks a bit frightened by the chaos (but she understands postpartum when she comes back and becomes part of it). We meet in the lounge at the back of the store.

And Earthy Mama will be sharing her birth story at a Blessingway in April! :)

Upstate SC is not generally known for much snow. But we often have a once-a-year ice storm that knocks out all the power in a 50 miles radius!

That's awesome! I really hope I'm able to make it! It sounds like a lot of fun.

I have talked to a few people about how crazy this storm really is for this area - and been accused of possibly bringing it all with me more than a few times! In my defense, we came from CO via SoCal, so ... unless I picked it up on the Sonoran Desert, I refuse to take the blame!
