I don't really have anything we can use at home that is chemical-free and toddler-friendly (not glass or ceramic). I will still send sippy cup with to daycare/outings, but would like to use regular cups at home. What I am looking for:

-something small for toddlers
-dishwasher safe (preferably NOT top-rack only as I have enough of that stuff but I'm probably asking too much)
-not plastic or at least BPA/phalate (sp) free
-not metal or it will be too cold to handle
-covers would be nice but not critical

Got any good ones to recommend? If it's something I can buy at a chain store, such as Target, all the better. Thanks!

For at home, DD uses these little mugs...

http://www.crateandbarrel.com/family.aspx?c=730&f=1675

These are made from glass but are very, very durable. She has yet to break one (and we have a mix of tile, hardwood, carpet). Usually, she is sitting at the dining table (on hardwood) or counter (made from granite) while drinking. The mugs seem to be the perfect size for little toddler hands and hold just enough liquid.

I have also seen them at my local grocery stores and Targets.

While on the go, DD uses a simple BPA-free sippy cup that I picked up at Target. I try to avoid using any and all plastics, w/ our food and beverage. So, I am planning on getting her a SS sippy cup.

I have also seen little wooden mugs at Nova Naturals.

Thanks! We just lost our only Klean Kanteen
so we are down to one sippy - the Safe Sippy

I've had two Foogoos and both were unusable after a fairly short period of time (heaven help if you lose the little spring for the clip that keeps the cap closed). Also had one top warp in the top-rack dishwasher even though dishwasher safe (Thermos was nice enough to send free replacement). Otherwise, yeah I loved them but unlikely to get one again.

Are you SURE those glass ones don't break? Everything glass or ceramic breaks on our tile floor.

Hmmm, I've been using the Foogo sippy cup, but without the spill proof valve. There's no spring or anything to lose, the cap just screws on and it has handles so it isn't cold to hold. Dd loves it. That and she drinks out of my glass a lot. I've been looking every time we go to the thrift store for some very small glasses with handles similar to the cafe mugs in the link above. I have my reservations, but as long as she doesn't take to winging them I think it will be okay.

Our straw foogoos seemed to leak a little early on, but I must have figured out how to put them back together after washing better, b/c no longer. Or maybe DD just got better about not leaving them upside down
. We have four, and we take them out and about, and DD drinks from them at home (around downstairs and at table for meals). Now, my friend says her son has beat his up a lot, b/c he throws it around, but it still works. Bottom line, I love them. They keep stuff cold and don't sweat, and aren't too cold on the outside. And they sell them at Target

I help DD practice with my glasses every day, but I'm not in a rush to get her using regular cups per se. She'll be able to do it by the time she's 20 one way or another. so that's my biased best advice.

We had/have one of the foogo straw cups, but its currently unusable as DS bit through the top part of the straw bit, so... yeah. And Thermos hasn't written me back yet about a replacement :grumble:

Anyhow, we sometimes use the spill proof valve on the sippy and sometimes not. Just depends... generally if its just water I don't bother but milk & juice I tend to put it on for, just for the sake of not cleaning up sticky/smelly stuff
And in the car, cause' he tends to throw them....

I just bought this set that includes a dishwasher safe BPA free plastic child's mug with a stainless steel insert. It's expensive, only comes in a set, and isn't available at any chain store that I know of (I bought it a local shop but you can buy it online directly from the maker), so I don't know if it will work for you. Just thought I would throw it out there anyway though just in case.

Thanks! I like ThinkBaby stuff, too bad they don't sell the cups separate. I will think about it though. I'm looking for something w/o lids, just that we can use at home. He can use regular ceramic mugs pretty good, I just want something smaller for him and non-breakable and dishwasher safe.

We have this enamelware espresso mug:
http://www.rei.com/product/401130
Small, nonbreakable, dishwasher safe, non plastic
Do you live near and ikea? There kids dishes are plastic, BPA free and dishwasher safe
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10096907
Also any of the "disposable" BPA free sippys can just be used without the lid since they snap on instead of screwing on, like this kind:

I love, love, love our kleen kanteens. We have had foogo, sigg and kleen kanteens and the KKs are by far my fave. I love that I can use a sippy lid or a sport top depending on my needs, they are indestructible, safe, etc. When I have another baby they will use a KK as their only sippy.
Also, I found tiny, tiny glasses at the $1 4 for $1. I figured for 25 cents each who cares if they get broken. DD hasn't broken one yet though.

cup

There is a set I was looking at for dd. Didn't get it because I found some nice dishes at the thrift store for her. Very cute with frogs on it. Plastic on the outer, stainless steel interior. Looks like that site sells a couple of the cups separate. Good price. They have lids that just set on top so that if you were out you could set it on to keep bugs out. Also has some cups that look wood, says they're lacquered. Not sure if that is good or not. They come with a set though. Seems expensive to me.

Thanks! Is enamelware pretty safe? That is the cheapest by far. I'm guessing the base is aluminum with porcelain coating?

The ones with the animals are real cute too. Thanks! I'm checking them out, trying to stay away from plastic though on second thought.

i know you said no metal, but we couldn't live without our Klean Kanteens! we've never had a problem with them being too cold to handle, but all we put in there is water. we don't do cows milk, so there's no need to refrigerate.

we had a couple BPA free plastic straw sippy cups from iPlay, but they both broke after being dropped on the hardwood floor
