I would like to buy some dyes to dye some playsilks (I want to get the scarves from Dharma). I am clueless on this so will need detailed information or direction to where it is. I have the Dharma catalog but that confuses me even more! Please just tell me what to buy.

I've only dyed cpfs so I could be wrong. I do know you won't need that much dye so buy the 2 oz. Check dharma's instructions for vat dyeing. You'll probably need synthrapol, too. Soda ash is like ph UP that you can get at any store that sells pool supplies - sodium carbonate.

However, you might want to check the diapering resource pages b/c I think you can dye silk with kool-aid. Much cheaper.

I just found this. Also, I've heard through the grapevine that www.thaisilks.com is the place to buy playsilks. Not sure if that link is right. Let me check.

thaisilks are cheaper.
for dye you can use silk dye or procion fiber reactive dyes. from dharma or a local art supply store

i actually don't use soda ash with silks, i use white vinegar as a presoak fixitive.

if you read on the dharma web site you'll have some more ideas on what to do
