Hi, everyone. I'm a little late with this, considering I'm almost due (October 1st, only 48 days left to go), but we got delayed in doing interviews (first a car wreck, then no vehicle after, then moving, then obnoxious ob tests) and I was looking for a place to start. All of my family is medical-minded, so I can't even MENTION what I'm looking for in a pedi to them or they'd tear me apart and none of my supportive friends have any kids, so they can't offer help, either.

Does anyone know of any pediatricians in the Independence, MO area that are friendly towards delaying/selectively vaccinating? If anyone can give me a few places to start (or even one) that would be great--better than just thumbing through my provider directory (which I may have to do anyway)!

Try kcapfamilies.com. My son's ped is prob mainstream--I didn't do anything "different" when it came to vax (didn't delay or select, didn't hear about that until recently...whole 'nother story). But KCAP is all mommas (and daddies) from our area, and there's a whole section for referrals.

Thank you for the warning! Thankfully, they're not in my provider directory, although their website says that they take my insurance. So they weren't even on my interview list. I appreciate the head's up!

Check out Independence Pediatrics... I know they are on my very narrow list. I have had incidences with some of the other docs but I really like Dr. Black and the nurse practitioners have been great! They haven't pressured me to vaccinate but they do have to "warn you" and they had me sign a decline to vac form.

I ended up at Professional Pediatrics in Lee's Summit. I talked to Dr. Teresa Brady there and she was incredibly nice and said that they go with the parent's decision above all else and explained her reasons for being pro-vax to me and when I started finishing her sentences (bad habit, lol) she smiled and said that she was glad that I was clearly researching before making a decision and that she felt that was best. On everything else, we were in agreement. Dr. Black was actually who I was GOING to interview, but my post here sent me to a great KC attachment parenting board (the one that Keanu's mom recommended) that since you're in Independence, you should come over and see. They have other Independence moms, too (you just have to make an intro post, since it's a locked forum for the protection of the members) and you may be able to find a lot of great local groups faster. This is a great place, too, but the other one is just us KC area folks. The link to KCAP is http://128.242.8.10/forums/index.php (the address changed recently due to a server problem, but it's the same secure site). Hope to see you over there!

By the by, I think I know you ^_^ But it's just based on the spelling of your name, your age and your location. If your uniform at work is purple and black and you have a boy and a girl, then you know me, too, 'cause you'd work with my tall, long-haired hubby. If not, then wow, two clearly AP Jamees in Independence is a coincidence!
