I clean my sil's house each week, and buy my own supplies. I've been wanting to make my own cleaners for some time, but really have no idea where to begin. I know that vinegar & water work for windows-but I have no idea of how much of what!
I also would like an all purpose cleaner, for kitchens & bathrooms. Can I use essential oils to scent my cleaners? If so, how much? Thanks!!!

check out the recipe sticky at the top of this forum. The recipe thread will help you out.

Also, just a note to let you know that signatures need to be kept to two lines if you could please consolidate yours!

Thanks!

This is crazy and I don't know why it works but it is the best window cleaner I have ever found: spray vinegar/water mix onto mirrors and windows and use old newspapers to wipe them down...it is absolutely amazing...no streaks at all. Has anyone else ever heard of this? I learned it at a restaurant in San Francisco where I worked right after college.... :LOL

I heard not to use newspapers because over time the ink from them builds up on the windows. Not sure if it's true, I've never used them. I've found prefolds work great and don't leave anything behind (dust, fuzz, etc).

Check out Clean House, Clean Planet by Karen Logan.

Club Soda is supposed to be great for windows, but I'm waiting until I run out of what we have (which seems to be taking forever!).

If you check out the book, look for Merlin's Magic- it's my favorite recipe for all purpose cleaning. (16 oz spray bottle filled almost full, Dr Bronner's, tea tree oil, and any essential oils you like).

Have fun cleaning!

I scrunch up one sheet of newspaper and sort of create a little divot in the center, pour in about a tablespoon of white vinegar, wait 10 seconds for it to soak into the paper and then wipe away! If you turn the paper over you can wipe them dry with just one sheet. It worls great and I've never noticed a buildup of ink. Hope that helps

I'm all about the Merlin's Magic cleaner from Clean House, Clean Planet.

My son clean the bathroom sink and toilet and I feel much better about Merlin's than the stuff we used before.

It's also great for counters and cupboards and everything else. I finish eating surfaces with 1/2 vinegar 1/2 water solution (in a spray bottle) to lift up any soap residue. The vinegar and water is great for the floor.

Fill a large spray bottle with:

1/4 cup vinegar
30 drops Grapefruit Seed extract
10 drops tea tree oil
water (fill until full)

Vinegar, GSE, and TTO all have anti-microbial properties. This is the only disinfectant I use in the house and I
it.
