My Mom is coming out here in June from CA and is planning on staying through the summer (and potentially through Sept.) to help with my 1'st baby (due June 23!), and I need to help her find a studio or 1 BR!

I am searching Craigslist of course, but I thought I'd also put the word out here in case any of you are looking for a house sitter or to sublet your place - I honestly don't think you could find a better occupant than my Mom , a lovely, neat, quiet 70 year old grandmother with excellent gardening skills, and willing & able to pay for the whole summer up front We are looking primarily on the east side, but anywhere in PVD could work; no more than $700/mo.

Alternatively, anyone know of any short term furnished rentals in the area that are not too gross or too expensive? Or...? Any other suggestions of where to look? Thanks!!

You might have a bunch of luck if you look at Brown's Housing office. When I was in grad school (albeit at UCLA), lots of colleagues posted their apartments/houses at our Housing office to sublet, since they were heading home for the summer. Of course, you won't want to be hanging out with a bunch of undergrads, but I am sure grad students and professors post sublets as well. A researcher friend found her sublet through Brown that way last summer. I'm not sure if they have online postings, or if you'd have to go to their office, but it is worth a shot. Good luck!

I'm a grad student at Brown and would be happy to send a message out to our grad student listserv, if you'd like. Just send me an email (you can do that using the link below my username) with the message you'd like me to send. There are lots of grad students looking for summer subletters right now.

My mom came for a year after my daughter was born, and it was so nice to have the support. Congrats!
