Last week I had a *horrendous* experience being sent all over town by my VA-based pediatrician to find someone who will perform the Pertussis test (simply because I brought my 7-mo. son in with a cough and he isn't vaccinated!) and finally ending in the Children's Hospital ER to be told that my ped should have tested him and he didn't need the test anyway b/c he obviously didn't have whooping cough, after a long and abrupt lecture implying our ignorance and ineptitude as parents which began with, "But, first of all, Why isn't this child Vaccinated??"

.... So, now I am in the market for a vax-flexible, DC-based (if at all possible!) pediatrician or family doctor who will perform all necessary tests him/herself. Actually, anyone in the tri-state area will do, if they are actually and really vax-flexible (and don't treat you like an idiot for becoming involved in your child's care) and don't send you off to hospitals that won't serve you for every test your child needs.

Can anyone recommend their pediatrician or family doc in/near DC?? Thanks for any and all help you can give!!

Just subbing so I can read the responses, and I hope there are some! The only dr's I've heard of who may be flexible/supportive are Dr. Razi in DC and Dr. Irwin in VA- not sure if either is taking new patients, and I don't think either one takes insurance.

I am so sorry this happened to you I live in fear of this And to have to deal with that while your baby is sick, even more difficult. I guess we should be thankful they "only" reacted with negative statements, and not worse! so sad!!!

Mine seems to be friendly with reduced vaxs. She has a lot of patients on the Sears schedule. She is definitely breastfeeding friendly.

I love love love our ped, after similar experiences and searching. Dr. Amina Watson in Upper Marlboro - it's a small office with just her and a family doc, so they can't do any and all testing (they send out for blood draws at least), but honestly I'd be shocked if you could find such a thing. I don't know how she feels about no vax at all, but she is extremely caring and common-sense about alt/delayed schedules as we've done. Very good about listening to parents/patients and having a conversation about concerns, and an amazing bedside manner.

Does it have to be DC specifically? Our ped office is fine for this and they are in McLean, VA. PM me if you are interested.
