Hi,

I'm not sure if I am posting this in the right section but I have a few questions regarding going to either a chiropractor, naturopath/homeopath.

Basically I do not trust doctors. I've had some bad experiences that have resulted in me not having a lot of faith in them. I would like to start taking a more proactive approach to my own health though. I was thinking it might be a good idea to look into going to either a chiropractor or a naturopath or a homeopath. I've never been to any type of alternative medical practitioners though so I'm looking for a little advice from people who use any of these.

I'd like to know where should I start? Would it be a good idea to go to a chiropractor first, a naturopath? I've got a pretty good idea what a chiropractor does but I'm not too sure what a naturopath does (or the difference between a naturopath and a homeopath?) I'm also a little concerned about the cost. Is it really expensive?

That's all the questions I can think of for now. If anyone has any advice for a newbie who would really like to start taking better care of herself and her family it would really be appreciated.

TIA

Hi Kelly,

I'm not sure what kind of treatment you're looking for, so it's hard to answer your question. Are you going in for a particular problem or just a general check up?

Another thing you might consider is acupuncture. Acupuncturists are trained in Chinese medicine which looks at the body in a completely different way than traditional western medicine (although it often compliments western medicine). I go to an acupuncturist regularly. In fact, my primary care is now done by an acupuncturist. I haven't seen a "regular" doctor since my 6 week post partum appointment.

Thanks for the reply

There is nothing specifically wrong so I guess I am looking to just get a checkup as well as to establish a relationship with someone in the event something is wrong and I need help.

The naturpath in my town does accupuncture so thank you for the recommendation. I will admit the idea of all those needles does give me the heebie jeebies but I suppose I can try anything once.

Thanks once again for the recommendation. I think I will call next week and make an appointment.
