I am at the end of my rope with this. I have been trying to work with my doc and she refuses to order the saliva thyroid panel and the metzmetrix tests. I did all the testing she would do and it came back "normal" so she thinks their is nothing wrong with me.

I spoke with my insurance and they will only cover it if it comes rom a doctor's request. So how do I find a doctor to request it? I pay over $250 a month for my insurance, and money is very tight right now, otherwise I would just pay out of pocket. But I need to try to get it covered.

I am so frustrated by this and want to get better, but am losing hope. If anyone has any advice please help.

Sorry I can't help either but I thought it should be bumped up at least once.

Can you maybe tell us a little more why you need this test?

I know nothing about it and I am not concerned but maybe others are better to help in some way....???

ETA - perhaps some ND or an DO would order such a test?

Have you looked in Julia Ross' book The Mood Cure? or Mary Shomon's Hypothyroidism book?

Where are you?

The reason I am wanting these tests is because I have been told by my chiro and others to have my adrenal/thyroid tested because the blood test isn't an accurate measure. I have done the blood pressure test for my adrenals, where you test lying down then immediately standing. Supposedly if there is no change or a drop your ardrenals are low. A normal person would have an elevated bp after standing. Mine stayed the same but my heart rate went from 60 to 105.
In addition, I am wanting my Amino Acids tested because both MT and Gale looked at my list of symptoms and recommended they be tested. My chiro is in agreement and briefly looked at my labs and said that my cholesterol was too low. And that I am most likely not absorbing.

Here is a link to my original thread http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=573659

However, now I am down to 111 pds.
Gotta run, baby needs me but will answer more later.

Maybe you can just start a balanced amino acid formula while you are waiting to sort this out?

I know Amanda has used Metametrix, but the Kirkman aminos have been recommended to me too:
http://www.kirkmanlabs.com/products/...rt339_304.html

Also the first step for your thyroid is making sure you have enough iodine in your body. If you don't have enough of that or the amino acid tyrosine, your thyroid cannot make the T3 and T4.

Patch Test for Iodine Level
http://www.health911.com/remedies/rem_thyr.htm

Coconut Oil will help too
http://www.mercola.com/2003/nov/8/thyroid_health.htm

Were your thyroid antibioties tested by your previous doctor too?

A Broda O Barnes Foundation member would be a good doc to go to: http://www.brodabarnes.org

If you go from lying down to standing, your blood pressure should remain unchanged or decrease slightly and temporarily; it should not significantly increase. There's a complicated circulatory and neurological response to the stress of standing, which shifts downward about 2/3s of a liter of blood from your chest and thus below your heart. This involves contraction of leg and gluteal muscles to push the blood upward, constriction and elastic recoil of blood vessels, hormonal responses, and increased heart rate. Typically, if this response is off, the blood pressure drops suddenly and causes fainting or near fainting. While the adrenal glands are involved in maintaining blood pressure when standing, their contribution is small and checking one's bp after standing can't substitute as test for adrenal function.

What was your cholesterol, and what aspect of it was too low? The one part of a cholesterol panel that is worrisome when it is low is HDL, the so-called "good" cholesterol. Is this what was low?

Also, what concerns do you have about amino acids? Do you have a restricted diet that you think is deficient in certain amino acids?

It sounds like you have a lot going on. I hope things smooth out and you are feeling better soon.

The metametrix test was for amino acids, but Gale also recommended the Doctors Data panel as well. She said it included more.
As for my cholesterol levels I don't have them on hand, I left them with my chiro for him to review. But when I get them back I will post them.

My diet is lacking in diversity. I eat eggs and whole whaet toast for breakfast, a sandwich for lunch with vege chips, and most likely chicken with brown rice and a vege for dinner. If one of those meals is missing then a smoothie replaces it(strawberries, yogurt, apple juice and blueberries). I am trying to eat healthy, but still learning. I have always had a limited diet, but has progressed from fast food to where it is today. I am often starving and feel that something is missing. Even after a finished a meal, about 1 hour I am hungry again. I know with nursing a 9 mo there is a lot of demand, but my instinct is telling me I am lacking. Plus with losing so much blood after her birth, my level was down to 6.9, it took everything I had to recover, especially when I still had remaining placenta to express and thrush to get over.

There have been times when I have been so weak I couldn't even hold my baby. Slwoly I am progressing but I know something is off and has been my whole life. Here is a list of my symptoms...
Main one is extreme weakness - some days I can't pick up my LO in the morning and breathing alone feels like it takes to much effort.
Fatigue - which with a poor sleeping baby makes it worse(had whole life but much worse after baby)
Mental Fog - can't remember much and talking is difficult(often forget what I'm saying). I feel like I'm not really alive(past 5 years, but extremely worse since delivery)
Dizziness from sitting and laying down(sometimes just moving to fast), had for the last 10 years but a lot worse after baby
Trouble Falling Asleep(had whole life)
Weight loss - am 10 pounds lighter than before I was preg.(currently 117 and very skinny)--Now down to 111.
Dry Itchy eyes with red lines and fuzziness at times(had about past 15 years)
Occasional Post Nasal Drip & Runny Nose - worse after eating dairy(for as long as I can remember)
Bumps on upper arms and near knees(on & off whole life but since preg. won't go away)
Occasional stomach pain that feels like an ulcer(especially when stressed)
Very Low Blood Pressure(had whole life)
Anxiety(on & off whole life)
Cracking / Popping Joints (since 18), wake up very stiff
Bone Growth Under Tongue from clinching at night
TMJ
No sex drive
Sadness & Very Emotional(whole life but much worse now)
Flat Warts On Legs - had since 14, and to me a sign of suppressed immune system
Very dry skin, with longitudinal cracks, some painful...
Plus more on my original post and some I can't remember right now.

Thanks for everyones help so far. I am checking into the links provided. Thanks and will post more when I have the time.

Thanks again,
Disclaimer- I am not a doctor or authorized to give medical advice

Here are my thoughts: you are not eating anywhere near enough food!!! And certainly not enough of a variety to get adequate vitamins/minerals/protein, etc.

Cut out dairy, since it makes you congested (I'm the same way), and start eating better

While you are figuring things out, I would take Floravital for iron and B vitamines, and a good probiotic (I use Primadollophis by Nature's Way, it's isn't the very best, but it's good and works for us), and some Vit. c/sodium acsorbate.

Is there a reason that your diet is lacking? If not, go buy some fruits, veggies, and good quality meats (organic free range if you can afford it, if not, at least hormone/antibiotic free)! Limit the junky fillers like bread and grains, they don't offer much in the way of vitamins. Or, replace with something like Quinoa, which has protein.

Looking at your diet, it seems like you are maybe, maybe getting 50 grams of protien a day, which isn't nearly enough, IMO, especially if you are nursing!

Do you take cod liver oil or eat fish? That will help too.

I hope you figure out what's wrong soon....

Have you tried eliminating gluten?

grisandole- Thanks for the reply. I have started a fish oil supplement; I was taking another form but from what I understand not enough.
I agree with the dairy. I don't drink milk, but still use butter, cheese, and yogurt. Which I would like to lessen or remove completely.
My biggest issue is I don't know how to plan meals and what to eat. Thus the same thing everyday. My dh is just as bad and we go rounds of "what do you want to eat", "I don't know what do you want" and so on. I attempted a thread on meal planning about shopping lists but what I really need is a nutritionist or someone to help me learn what to eat anf how to make it into meals. I am very open to any ideas, in fact, I would love some ideas.
As for the probiotics I have been taking some by Jarrow, but not everyday, about every other. I'm making a note for my fridge to remind me. I was going to try to make my own yogurt to save on the money from probiotics, but haven't made that attempt yet.
Ok, gotta run, again thanks for the help.

You've gotten some good responses, but I'll throw in my 2 cents as well. When I've had a dr who refused the tests I wanted done, I found another dr. If you want testing thru a specific lab, try contacting that lab to see if they will give you a list of drs who refer to them regularly. You can also call compounding pharmacists to find out which drs regularly order saliva tests.

OK, I got my tests back from my chiro and my cholesterol/hdl ratio was 2.47 and normal is 3.27-4.44. His analysis is that I should have the metzmetrix triad done. Only thing is that it's $500 and not covered through my insurance if ordered by him.

So I am calling docs in my area to see if any request doctors data or metametrix, and to see if any will do adrenal testing. I want to go the natural route, but I pay for insurance so I need to use them for the testing. It's sad in America they don't cover natural healing. Like I really want to pump prescription drugs into my system. No thanks.

I need to get these tests first so I can see if the problem lies there, if not then I will try a homeopathic(out of pocket but worth it). I would love to meet with a nutritionist, but don't know any in the area. I think I will try on the finding my tribe to see if I get a response.

Thaks again for the help and listening to my frustrations. If anyone has any other input I am all ears.

I can understand how you feel. My dr chose acth blood test instead of saliva because he thinks he know the "golden standard" for adrenal fatigue yesterday. If you have to order the test yourself, you might want to look into canaryclub.org, I read about it from "feeling fat, fuzzy, or frazzled", they have labs for saliva test around $150, it covers thryroid, sex hormone, and adrenal. I might have to do that myself.

Be well.
