I was shocked to hear that the LDOH put an ad on the local radio that, among other incorrect admonitions, included the warning to NEVER sleep with your baby. This was an ad related to SIDS research. I have read alot of things that say that SIDS incidence is reduced in co-sleeping arrangements. What is the deal?! I can't believe that they would tell parents this when it doesn't seem to be true at all.

They have been doing ads like that for at least 4 years, probably longer. I don't really think there is much that can be done about it. They can find stats for their info and don't want to hear otherwise. Even though we all know if done correctly co-sleeping with our children is safer. It's just easier for them to play the CYA game and say not to.

The health department here is like that too. I let healthy start come out when DD was first born, and they give you a packet of mommy resources etc..and in that was a "wARNING" paper on dangers of cosleeping. They also questioned me, to make sure I wasn't going to have dd in my bed, and proceeded to tell me that some "uncooperative" mothers just won't listen to the warnings so they " healthy start, a part of the pinellas county health dept" bought a few co-sleepers to bring to those mothers<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/irked.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="irked">: . Never the less, we do not have healthy start people coming by to visit
