I have a very pro-breastfeeding ped, but I hesitate to actually call him AP friendly. We chose him because he has a IBCLC (who is also an RN) on staff. He asks all his nursing moms to meet with her a couple of days after the birth. Because the doc sees the baby (just a quick look-in), it's billed through insurance and you only pay a co-pay. So for $20 I got to spend 4 hours with a great IBCLC when we were having troubles. She also works at the Nursing Station here in Louisville and let me tell you it would have been much more $ to go see her there. I also got nipple shields and soothies (for free) through the ped's office.
I hesitate to call him AP friendly, because we haven't really talked about it. At the beginning of each visit, the nurse asks breast or bottle to see how you are feeding. He never asked me if/when I was planning to wean. I actually had to ask him about cow's milk at her 15 month check up (because we were weaning). DD dropped down to the 5% around 9 months, but he has never been worried about it. He asked me about what she was eating, if she was active, etc. He then told me she "only looked skinny on the charts" because they were based on FF babes. He mentioned solids at 4 months, but encouraged us to wait. He asks if we have sleep problems at well baby visits, but has never inquired as to where/how long she sleeps at night. He's never mentioned any kind of sleep training. One of his nurses actually suggested cloth diapering to me when dd was a newborn.
My one problem with his office is his new partner. She is a younger, female doctor and she told me to night wean because dd was manipulating me. It had mentioning how many times we had been up the night before, because I thought she was getting sick. This is the only negative experience I've had there.
