OK mamas...<br>
So how do I reason w/my pedi (whom I otherwise LOVE) when he tsk's me for questioning the vax schedule? Currently I have vax'ed DD on 'schedule' but w/ pres. free meds. He thinks it is unneccesary, and that it causes the child more pain by multiple needlesticks, but he allows me to exercise my decision as the parent. I get the script for the ones that aren't pres. free and go to the pharmacy, bring the vax to him for administration. When I said that I was doing this r/t the cases of autism, his response was that it was so rare that it wasn't significant. Where do I go with that? Are there any concrete numbers out there that he can't deny? I don't think that the articles from my mothering mag would do it<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"> ... The only other thing that he and I don't see eye-to-eye on is the organic thing, he thinks it is a huge scam (which some of it probably is) and that we are wasting money. Again, I grow my own veggies in the summer now (chem free, of course), and buy locally (for some reason I trust it more)... And again, he accepts that as my decision as the parent and has not ever brought it up again. On the plus side, he is very pro-breastfeeding, and supportive if you want to BF beyond a year, and didn't blink an eye at the cloth dipes/natural care products. oh, and did I mention he loves my daughter? He truly enjoys his job, and takes pride in doing it well. I have seen him in action with very sick babies (I work in LDRP), and every time I say I am sooooo glad he is our pedi...<br>
Soooo... How do I approach him if I want to delay and/or selectively vax DD and the next babe? I need some info, that shows him it is NOT insignificant, but I need truly credible sources, not opinions...<br>
Please help! I have to go back in 3 weeks for her next checkup (2yr) and I want all my ducks waddling in a row, KWIM??<br>
Tanks!!!

You're going to have to let it go. He's not going to see eye to eye with you just because you bring in a few articles or some abstracts or anything. Just agree to disagree. If the worst he's doing is "tsking" you, then you have a pretty good one. Lots of peds refuse to see children if their parents decline vaccinations. I think you need to accept the fact that he doesn't like the thought of you declining vaccinations in the same way you accept the fact that he has some bizarre problem with you growing your own vegetables. You don't need him to approve your decisions and honestly, as long as he's going to continue to do his job well and treat you with respect, why should you care? (I mean that in a nice way, lol.)

yeah, except i haven't actually <i>declined</i> any vax's yet. so far, all i've done is require pres-free vax's. he thinks it's unneccessary, but writes me a script just the same.<br>
is the real evil in the preservatives or the vax itself? i guess i am a little cloudy on the specifics...

Personally I think it's the vax themselves. I wouldn't vax with perservative free vaxes either.<br><br>
come over to the main vaccination forum for more info.<br><br>

And the "issue" I take with some vaxes isn't technically the vax itself. It's more about the nature of the disease. Most of the vaxes seem pretty safe, I guess. But some are basically a scam, some are just a bad idea because of the way the vax works (like not effevctive enough in the long term to justify giving it to infants), for some, the epidemiology of the disease makes vaxing infants a bad idea, etc.
