A little background: PCOS, we tried for 16 months before this cycle, and I just got my bfp last week on Wednesday.

My RE did a progesterone level on Wednesday and it came back as 14.3. RE says it's due to such late ovulation (cd28) and my PCOS. She wants me to supplement with Prometrium and do an u/s on 5/14.

We agreed to both, but I'm having second thoughts on the Prometrium (it's $$$). Most of the studies that I've read indicate that my level, while low is still within the "normal" range and in most reviews have indicated that the progesterone supplementation does not really have an impact on outcomes.

Any thoughts?

My midwives gave me a $20 jar of natural progesterone cream to try for my morning sickness (if you have high estrogen, you might be sicker). One did mention that progesterone is a factor in miscarriage so it couldn't hurt. Apparently when absorbed thru the skin it can help. But then again, I haven't read the studies!

You can also buy some Wild Yam Cream that is also absorbed through the skin. It's a progesterone treatment used for during menopause, but it's still progestrone. My friend did that and now is past it w/a healthy pregnancy. I did the prometrium... suppository style.... yuck. I couldn't wait til it was over at 12 weeks, but my baby survived. My progestrone was 13.5, I think though, so slightly lower than yours. I was nursing at the time and having weird cycles, so I attribute it to that, but I was never tested with my daughter so I don't know if I was low that time maybe, too, or not.

I've had 2 successful pregnancies while on progesterone (one on prometrium taken vaginally, the other on progesterone suppositories) and Ive had one miscarriage while not on progesterone. I wouldn't take the chance. I don't know what my progesterone levels are while pregnant, but they are low while ttc.

I would do the progesterone. I did the oral pills and they didnt cost that much and things turned out great for me. 25dpo with a 8.9 progest level.

I had 3 m/c without progesterone and i am now 18 wks preg. on progesterone suppostitories. I would also go with the prog. I would however recommend something other that the prometrium. The suppostitories are a more natural form of prog. and so are the creams. and CONGRADULATIONS! :

Thank you ladies for all of the responses. pottermama - I would agree about the prometrium. For a 20 day course it was $175. *If* the RE would like me to continue after she retests on 5/14 I'll ask her about alternatives. I would want to make sure the dosage was correct. :0)
